But only a fraction of people are able to make such an effort. Effectively, it’s not difficult to be an authoritarian leftist. It takes a moment under an influence of a powerful rhetoric figure to shift emotionally. And as history shows people change their political views all the time with 0 issues!

And that’s cause politics is very often irrational, based on emotions such as fear, hate, hope etc. And that means it is indeed very personal in the first place, and ideological in the second place, because you can only build a strictly ideological position through reading, thinking and discussing.

It won’t make sense if you treat political views as binary, black & white. But it starts making sense if you reject this perspective and see them as a relational, free-flowing mixture of different elements, that don’t necessarily compete for coherence. In fact, they’re anything but coherent!

Redfash is an often used synonym for tankies or authoritarian leftists, that usually fall within communist spectrum. Some tankies reject the label as contradictory or as a smear campaign… but then some embrace it and openly glorify nazism. 🧵

Polish researchers estimate that in 1950 (so at the peak) there were about 3 mln people imprisoned in Soviet gulag system. In comparison about 1,9 mln people are held in US prisons as of today. These are both huge numbers… but Soviets killed about 60 mln people in the gulags on the top of that!

As much as I value Marx as a major contributor to XIX century political science, economics and philosophy, his works are merely a curiosity when confronted with current reality on the ground. I’d rather start with Foucault, Graeber, Scott, Derrida, Zuboff, and toss up Adorno, Marcuse, Horkheimer.

A new poll published by Polish outlet wp.pl is out now! It answers the question if Poles are in favour of shooting down russian airplanes in their air space. Indeed, 40,5% are strongly for it, and 27,1% are rather for it. In total, only 9,7% of Poles are against it… strongly or not.
