Finished #Doppelganger by Naomi Klein last night. Loved how she uses the doppelgänger trope to analyze the post-pandemic moment (mostly in the US and Canada)—blending memoir and political critique, especially through her own ‘double,’ Naomi Wolf. (1/2) #booksky

Excellent by @ezrakleinbot.bsky.social "If you’re always consumed by the next outrage, you can’t look closely at the last one. The impression of Trump’s power remains; the fact that he keeps stepping on rakes is missed. The projection of strength obscures the reality of weakness. Don’t believe him."

Still reading Doppelgänger by Naomi Klein and had some trouble getting into it because i didn’t really know where she wanted to go with her analysis. now in part two and happy i stuck with it bc this is one of the best takes on the rise of Trumpism i’ve read so far. mostly bc it’s self critical.

on page 90: so far, an interesting exploration, if a bit long winded at times. love me a good memoir but not sure where this is headed yet. #doppelganger #booksky

you know it’s not your kind of week, when you want to take a bath to unwind and realize there’s no warm water 🙃 cold shower instead.

First book by Naomi Klein. Reading in German for a change. Curious about the topic. #booksky

in a bad mood somehow, so homeoffice lunch break includes a homemade #coffee (a medium roast i’ve been loving) and the #poem “I Go Down to the Shore” by Mary Oliver. And i wish i could just go down to the shore. But maybe down to the river is enough? #booksky

finished Parable of the Sower last night & i have so many thoughts. already ordered the sequel. i have had a hard time reading #fiction the last couple of months but this was perfect—maybe because it didn’t feel like fiction at all. it’s not for the fainthearted but gripping & thought-provoking! 📚💙

“From what I've read, I said to him, the world goes crazy every three or four decades. The trick is to survive until it goes sane again.” — Octavia Butler, Parable of the Sower

Putting together a -very- small stack of books that have been banned (in the U.S.) for a customer

At around page 200 now (very slow reader atm) and so invested in Lauren’s story. Worried what might happen to her. Also somehow worried about what her environment might turn her into. Butler’s writing is masterful. #booksky

I’m still deep into Parable of the Sower and hoping to finish it during train rides this weekend. I feel so anxious for Lauren (the main character) but can’t put the book down. Definitely not a story for anyone who gets overwhelmed easily, but it’s so powerful and thought-provoking. #booksky
