My second food fact is Vanilla comes from Mexico - specifically the Veracruz region.
It is a type of orchid.
It is believed only a specific kind of bee pollinates it. So everywhere else vanilla is grown (think Madagascar) it has to be hand pollinated.
Typically by child labor.
