I got all these issues in real time, when they were released. I still cringe that I never figured out that Darkseid was the big bad in the previous issue's final page reveal.
All the clues were there! Well, I was 13 at the time...

I remember the Doc Savage mini but didn't bother with it (only so much money!)
With The Shadow Strikes, I gave it 3 issues and lost interest. As mad as the Helfer series was, it was entertaining. The more conventional follow up was not.

I remember the Helfer series. If I recall, it suddenly got canceled and was replaced with a more conventional take a few months later. Probably at the request of Conde Nast, who obviously didn't like the Helfer take.
