Me too I have a visceral reaction when I see it on properties it’s like a “ keep out” sign

Me too - I now get a visceral reaction to flags flying on properties.
My family, many of whom fought for Australia , never needed a flag to show their love of country in fact many didn’t even march on Anzac Day as it bought back to them the horror of war

Before John Howard, whilst we were proud to be Aussies, we didn't wave the Flage and wear it American style on Australia day etc. We'd just enjoy the public holiday and feel lucky to be Aussie. I prefer to display my love of Australia by playing the many great songs like I Am You Are Australian,

I commented that my family who fought in every 20th century war didn’t need or want to wear or wave flags to define their love of country- I was asked did I serve ???

I commented on fb that waving or wearing the flag doesn’t make you a patriot - I was asked if I had served !
Off we went having a ridiculous to and fro that went nowhere !
The rubbish idea that flag waving defines love of country does my head in !

I have a visceral reaction to seeing people wrapping themselves in the Australian flag to prove they are patriotic
My family fought in every war from Boer war to Vietnam they did not have to fly the flag to show their love of this country and neither do I

I wonder how all those Americans who couldn’t bother to go out and vote feel now -or don’t they care ???
