Only 101 years ago—on June 2, 1924—the U.S. granted citizenship to Native people. But Indigenous nations have lived on this land for thousands of years.

Owls in towels...a great horned owl wrapped up for a feeding of nutritious liquid diet for emaciated carnivores. The bird's x-ray today is good. He got his first mini-meal of solid food tonight. Once he is eating solo, we will get the bird to another rehabber to gain weight & prep for release.

Great horned owl chicks are hatching. Parent birds time their courtship, egg laying and incubation to coincide with an abundance of prey. In our area, that typically means the first crop of baby bunnies. These chicks are in a well established nest site on the east edge of Rapid City.

He is a charmer! This saw-whet owl weighs in a 82 grams (most days). He has a dislocated shoulder, which is what prevented his release back to the wild. His name is Doolittle, for Jim Doolittle, WW2 flying ace.

I re-read the news. Trump's interview included answering questions about Greenland. Of COURSE he thinks he can simply force those people into submission. He has done that to women repeatedly. Once a bully....

Western S. Dakota is very dry. I planted rye grass seed tonight, praying that the forecast for 1-3 inches of snow this weekend is accurate. Most grasses come up with soft textures. If the grass doesn't grow, we get thistles. THEY are prickly, like my soul is. The state of the USA makes it so.

The raptors: their care, training, and well-being, bring me emotional stability. I feel deeply blessed to do this work and help run this organization. It is a good, rich, and full life.

This image is of the great horned owl cared for at my facility. Theodore Roosevelt (TR) is his name. He was hit by a truck in August 2024, and did not recover enough to return to the wild. He tolerates the presence of people, and is willing to be an avian ambassador for his species and all raptors.

I work with North American raptors. We care for a (very) elderly red-tailed hawk. It was nice enough weather today she could get moved outdoors to her mew again. She was displeased.
