The stablehand had already readied Ser Horsey for the journey, and at least he was excited, his eyes bright and alert, whickering softly at the sight of Evelyn. Would he be excited to set foot in Ferelden again? Would it feel like home to him?

Evelyn thought she might cry if she tried to speak, so she only turned her back to Cassandra and passed her the hairbrush. She had recovered most of the length now after cutting her hair so much shorter two years ago. It was almost easier to manage while longer, but she let Cassandra do it anyway as often as not. It had become a kind of morning ritual, and now if Cassandra couldn't see her face, it didn't matter if she let the tears fall. It was always remarkable to feel Cassandra's hands—so used to wielding a sword, to marking up reports from the Seekers in her messy penmanship—made gentle by her care for the waves she brushed out now. Every tangle, she met with softness, setting the brush aside to unknot the hair by hand. "Up or down, my love?"

I never did get around to WIP Wednesday last night, so here’s a little something from a dance scene:
"I believe this is the part where, if the lady wishes it, her dance partner might steal a kiss," Cassandra whispered as the song wound down, her lips so close to Evelyn's ear that her breath tickled. "A very chaste one, of course. She would not want to besmirch the lady's virtue." Just discernible under the rouge on her cheeks, Evelyn blushed. "It does seem like the thing to do, though the lady's virtue has already been called into question on several counts."
