Third, to reiterate-- this was one of the best games I played last year. If it's a kind of story you're even a little bit interested in, you should absolutely play it for yourself---and if it's something you want to listen to, you should check out our playthrough. I'm still very proud of it.

--really effectively without drawing in broader setting markers. Which is a cool and fun piece of design! It also means that it can become very flexible and very straightforward to slot into settings and situations where you want to tell this kind of story (see above)!

Second, bouncing off this: we allude to this mid-review, but this game strikes a really fun balance (to me at least!) where it's successfully *setting*-agnostic without being *genre*-agnostic. It has such a clear *kind* of story that it wants to tell, and it focuses in on telling that--

First of all, back in January we found ourselves playing another game (For The Queen) which led us to define a player rivalry that the game itself did not resolve and for which we wanted some mechanical closure. When that wrapped, FD2G is what we immediately reached for.
