My main issue with the "hardworking immigrant" narrative isn't just that it eclipses all of the other wonderful ways that we might know immigrants i.e. as kin. It's that as framing device, it really useless. Essential immigrant farmworkers picking our produce are being rounded up right now.

Nearly 15 years after Anastasio Hernández Rojas’ wife began pushing for justice in her husband’s killing, an international human rights commission found that U.S. border officials were responsible for his death — and that they tortured him before he died.
Int’l Human Rights Body Rules on US Case of Migrant That Was Tortured, Killed
The findings could set a precedent for other cases before the commission involving US police-perpetrated killings.
