One theme I’ve noticed on a dating app: the majority of white men I’ve come across choose “not political” as their affiliation. You can choose to put it on your profile or not, so to wear ambivalence this boldly shows the privilege they hold; not having to act/care about their rights being stripped.

*Hopefully the protests can ignite more change & more movement from folks personally affected by this regime & those that understand the community impact of this regime. Showing up with signs is one thing; showing up and speaking up for change in rooms that others may not have access to is another.

The Hands Off protests also highlighted harsh truths:
-white people created this mess, and we need to fix it.
-being a largely white-attended protest, notice how few arrests or violent interactions happened, further showing that black and brown folks are disproportionally targeted at protests.

The Hands Off protests had a lot of great takeaways:
-More people showed up and out than was predicted, in most if not all locations.
-Many people protested for the first time.
-The collective energy will hopefully ignite more movement and more change.
*see next post for the harsh truths*

It bothers me so much that someone died from measles last night due to the West Texas outbreak. It’s preventable with vaccination. This should not be happening. A reminder that roughly 1 in 1000 cases are fatal.

Public health professionals go into the field to help people. The lack of empathy and care for the workers, firing them without cause, can feel devastating. These outcomes were preventable. Blood is on this administration’s hands.
On the HHS Leadership call today: 1 employee from CMS (Center for Medicare/Medicaid Service) and 2 employees from SSA (Social Security Administration) have died by suicide after their firing.

Ditto Doc Rubin. Science and facts matter. I went for a professional education in public health because it is core to my values. Public health (and especially women’s and children’s health) is the hill I will die on.
