The average age of death for a homeless person is just 44. In 2023, 4 lives were lost every single day. This should never be acceptable. Together, we can change it.

Help spread the word. 👉 www.connection-at-stmartins.org.uk/dyingforconn...

What @ginasue.bsky.social says. And this goes for all those working on #onlinesafety policy in civil society too. 👇🏻

I'm absolutely delighted to be named by @thehousemag.bsky.social as one of their "Women in Westminster: the 100" for 2025 and to have had the privilege to join so many other incredible women at a fabulous reception hosted by the Speaker last night, too!😊 #WiW100

It doesn't seem like the last week has prompted any dialling down of that willingness. Quite the contrary. www.thetimes.com/article/5df2...

Quite something for Ofcom to send a director out to talk up its approach to #onlinesafetyact #illegalharms enforcement only to manage to talk it down even further. And yes, that's the sound of industry lobbyists laughing their heads off in the background. 🙄 www.mlex.com/mlex/article...

ICYMI: a Speaker's Conference has been established in Parliament to look at election safety, with powers akin to a Select Committee in taking evidence, receiving papers, calling witnesses, etc. Here's a v helpful Commons library briefing with more. commonslibrary.parliament.uk/research-bri...

Relatedly, the same department is very much back to their happy place in terms of hyperbole.

This blog from Prof Sonia Livingstone on the evidence for #smartphone bans vs restrictions in schools is very good for context. And that distinction matters too in terms of whose interests talk about bans really serves. 👇 blogs.lse.ac.uk/politicsandp...

No matter how many times I must have walked over #Westminster Bridge - previously as a civil servant or in the 7 years since - this view, particularly on a glorious sunny morning, is still 👌

A small but important para in yesterday's #DarziReview about #socialmedia and worsening mental health outcomes. If the Government is going to take a prevention-focused approach to delivering its #NHS Mission, #DSIT, its sponsorship of the tech sector and its #OnlineSafetyAct oversight will be key.

Post-holiday, (nearly) new-term resolutions underway, not least to counteract the excesses of a fortnight in Florida 🍟🍔 🍪🥤

So I'm back on my old morning walk routine and this view is as lovely as ever. #HamptonCourtBridge #HamptonCourt #EastMolesey #RiverThames

Looking forward to speaking at this on Thursday, alongside speakers representing civil society, campaigners, regulators, academia & industry - all with an interest in getting the next steps for #onlinesafety policy right. Details here. #WEFevents www.westminsterforumprojects.co.uk/agenda/Onlin...

So, Ofcom is currently consulting on #OnlineSafetyAct #illegalharms codes of practice in which the (very limited) mitigation measures that comprise the draft codes are evidenced as "industry best practice".

These two paragraphs suggest that approach may actually lower, rather than raise, the bar.

❄️It's been -6 overnight in London this week so The Connection #homelessness charity has been offering beds & longer opening hours for #roughsleepers.

It's life-saving work - one of many reasons I'm raising £ for them on #TheLondonWalk overnight on 22 March. 👇🙏 www.justgiving.com/page/maeve-w...
