‘I substituted the egg for banana, the sugar for carrots and cooked at 250 rather than 180 and they looked NOTHING like the picture!’

AND I try not to put the leftover Santa wrapping paper in the wrapping paper bag afterwards because that would mean that Santa wrapped his presents here…

My grandmother would have hated this and AI granny should therefore be just complaining about this terrible invasion of privacy!

We have tested and tasted too much, lover-
Through a chink too wide there comes in no wonder.
But here in the Advent-darkened room
Where the dry black bread and the sugarless tea
Of penance will charm back the luxury
Of a child's soul, we'll return to Doom
The knowledge we stole but could not use.

Almost 14 years ago we got married on New Years Eve - best decision ever! All our friends were up for the party and we haven’t had to go anywhere since for New Years as ‘it’s our anniversary!’

Ours always arrives in the tree - here in Austria trees don’t go on sale until the middle of December. We never do anything too elaborate- lots of posing with their toys and hiding in the cat bed. The kids love it when the elf is doing something they are allowed do (eating sweets etc)

We have one here in the Natural History Museum in Vienna - he‘s in my profile picture! He was donated in the 1870‘s and is currently centre stage at their Ice Age exhibit ❤️

14 different ways to spell my name as far as I am aware. I do get frustrated with people correcting me ‘as Gaeilge’. to Maebh when I know I spell it ‘wrong’ but it’s also, you know, my name!

My English husband pronounces ‘fire’ as one syllable. But luckily he isn’t as bad as a lot of English people here in Vienna who pronounce it as ‘Viennar’

Also when they were smaller and were a lot fussier (hello beige food phase) and dinner wasn’t a hit, of course I would allow a peanut butter wrap or a bowl of yoghurt.

We are a ‘mixed metabolism‘ household. They (10& 12) eat like locust,s himself and myself try to eat a worthy salad x3 a week because I should not eat as much pasta as the kids do. Nothing wrong with having something on the table the kids can aspire to!

My 85 year old mother was buying them for my kids in the summer when an equally elderly lady asked her if they were for herself! I think she does have a sneaky read when she picks them up!

Big fans of the Beano here! The grandparents are delighted they read something they read when they were kids too!

Now that’s interculturalism!

Egg sandwiches are one of the big culture divides for my English husband and I. They have them just with boiled egg and mayonnaise but in Ireland we have them with egg, mayonnaise and onion (scallion or yellow) which means they are wrong and we are right.

This film played a big part in my decision to move to Vienna. I get the tram to work from one of the locations in the film - the tram stop at Schottentor, where - fun fact - the house from The Hare with the Amber Eyes is also located! Very hard to not love this city ❤️

I believe this is called ‘the toddler 20’ - the 20 pounds you put on finishing off your toddler’s plate.

We don’t use T9 to text anymore, we don’t need to know how to change a plug anymore, I no longer need the codes to get into buildings I worked and lived in over the last 20+ years but at one point this was all vital information that I needed.

Also agree re: prep for the workplace. I have moved around a lot during my work life and in every new job you have to learn off systems and procedures specific to that workplace and when you leave it gets stored in the part of the brain where the ‘once useful’ information goes.

There is no perfect system and it’s easy for me to say the LC isn’t as flawed as other systems because I got what I needed out of it but I do think the variety of subjects and the approaches to the subjects makes it one of the best.
