Republicans cry about DEI hires and Affirmative Action admissions while also fighting to maintain legacy admissions and the spoils system, which have historically and currently served to disadvantage low socioeconomic classes, racial minorities, women, and other minority groups.
Trump’s new EO will further cripple legal efforts to combat racism and sexism. “A bedrock principle of the United States is that all citizens are treated equally under the law,” Trump wrote. “This principle guarantees equality of opportunity, not equal outcomes.”

The U.S. House of Representatives passed HR 1526, which would effectively limit the federal courts' ability to exercise judicial review, their power to check the other two branches of government.

Please email your senators and ask them to help defeat this bill.

The work of public historians and the broaders Smithsonian Institute often stands as the only exposure to history that many Americans receive after leaving classrooms. To sensationalize and attempt to propoganize these facilities is a clear threat to the true retelling of our shared history.
The AHA has released a statement in support of the Smithsonian Institution, the target of the recent EO, “Restoring Truth and Sanity to American History.” This order “egregiously misrepresents the work of the Smithsonian Institution” and “completely misconstrues the nature of historical work.” 🗃️

Diverging from my usual books, "Men Who Hate Women" is extremely interesting. Laura Bates guides readers through her deep digital and sometimes personal dive into misogynist and often racist groups, which are frequently dismissed by broader society as weird but nonthreatening. #booksky

Dozens more pregnant and postpartum women have died in Texas hospitals since the state banned abortion, ProPublica’s analysis shows.

As the maternal mortality rate dropped nationally, it rose in Texas by 33%.

Reducing federal funding for scientific research comes at the detriment of the people of the United States and the global community. The private investment in research comes with a litany of potential biases, as private research begins with the end in mind.

Trump's efforts to roll back diversity policies echo past retreats from equality. Scholars look at the history of how the attack on #DEI mirrors post-Reconstruction rollbacks of Black rights. https://buff.ly/3X2NQcX

60 years of progress in expanding rights is being rolled back by Trump − a pattern that’s all too familiar in US history
Donald Trump’s measures ending government diversity efforts are part of a much broader effort to reverse civil rights gains for all Americans. It’s not the first time such a backlash has happened.

Fascism: A Warning by Madeleine Albright is a timely examination of the rise to power of the interwar fascists of the 1920s, 30s, and 40s. Her examination was inspired by Trump's first presidency but reads a prophecy for his second.

I’ll say it again. What makes this platform different is that it’s moderated. And, The Terms of Service are enforced. Bluesky is not like Twitter

The world needs a platform where people who disagree can have a real discussion.
The problem is you assume they want to "engage and have reals discussions on real issues." They don't. When confronted with facts, data, science, actual laws, and the like, they resort to spewing lies, disinformation and hate.
Some don't want posts like this on @bsky.app. I want more. Why ?

This is a moderated platform. Which means unbridled hate is removed. And blocked.

Making this is a platform where we can engage and have real discussions on real issues.
