Each account has a Decentralized ID (DID) record in a PLC directory that maps DIDs, handles, and services endpoints(including their PDS). So the bsky endpoint resolves it's profile information to the DID:plc entry, and then can query the PDS for the collection.

It feels like privacy needs to be implemented into the pds, something like a switch that says if private, don't broadcast events to the firehose and only hydrate queries for DIDs I subscribe to.

I was rolling something like this around in my head, but my gut suggests this will break peoples ability to move their data freely, since the app would have to manage the keys to not expose them to the firehose.
