Just back from a wonderful five days in the Eternal City: Rome, Baby!! Overindulged on cacio e pepe, spaghettoni carbonara, rigatoni amatriciana, spaghetti ai vongole and numerous pizzas. We saw some beautiful sites and enjoyed staying in the tranquility of Trastevere near Ponte Sisto in February.

This Ukrainian flag still flies from my balcony on the Plaza Mayor nearly two years after Russia´s unprovoked, brutal invasion, nearly ten years after Russia´s invasion of the Crimea. Putin has waged an apocalyptic campaign to erase Ukraine and its culture from the map. What nation will be next?

Downtown Madrid is sprinkled with these (and more) whimsical, life-like bronze statues. Wandering the back streets of the Barrios de los Austrias o Las Letras, it is always a treat to run into one of them.
