When I watch this commercial, I imagine all these people celebrating *for a different reason*.

"I guess we're all hunting like everybody else for a way the diligent and sensible can rise to the top and the lazy and quarrelsome can sink to the bottom. But it ain't easy to find. Meanwhile, we do all we can to help those that can't help themselves and those that can we leave alone."

"As for the residue of the Pequod's company, be it said, that at the present day not one in two of the many thousand men before the mast employed in the American whale fishery, are Americans born, though pretty nearly all the officers are. . .

One day we'll wake up and Trump will be dead, and #KilgoreTrout will tell us: "You were sick, but now you're well, and there's work to do." And we'll start fixing all this.
Where have you gone, #KurtVonnegut ? He'd tell us what's what.

JD sez: 'Unfortunately, Danish leaders have spent decades mistreating the Greenlandic people, treating them like second class citizens and allowing infrastructure on the island to fall into disrepair.'

Meanwhile, the U.S. has "Redland". Blackland. Ladyland.

I wonder when Trump will name himself NBA Commissioner. Sure seems to be a lot of DEI going on there.
March 19, 2025 at 10:47 PM
So, how's that Pete Rose pardon coming along? Couple of weeks? Too busy making peace in Ukraine?
Will he make himself head of the Hall of Fame and remove Jackie Robinson as a DEI hire?

Five years ago today was my last day in a classroom. They sent us home for "two weeks", but we never went back.

It was a scary, uncertain, tumultuous time. Just like today. With the help of science we got through it.

It's not the "woke-mind" virus after all. It's MAGA who are fatally infected.

Somewhere out there there's a woman named "Karen" who's making payments on a Tesla that she bought because she was worried about climate change -- and I feel bad for her. (Especially since she's been laid off from her job with the USAID.)

Just a thought here. What about presenting the State of the Union (or any Trump presser) with a 1960's style laugh track?

Fox -- greatly responsible for breaking America in two -- tells us how the Super Bowl "brings us together".

Uh-huh.
February 9, 2025 at 11:09 PM
So although I don't really watch football anymore, I have seen all or at least part of *every Super Bowl*.

Just one question: Why don't they play it on Saturday? It makes so much sense.

This may be a stupid question, but is geo-thermal a non-renewable resource? Do we become leeches sucking the blood out of our planet? (Obviously a long-term problem, but. . .)
“geothermal energy could meet 15% of global electricity demand growth between now and 2050 if project costs continue to decline. This would mean the deployment of as much as 800 gigawatts of geothermal capacity worldwide” www.iea.org/news/technol...

It will. All those pesky enslavers. (They didn't figure much into it when I was a kid.) And the whole Revere angle.
Poe, I guess, didn't have much use for Longfellow. (He took the title of critic seriously.)

We've got some serious billionaire-drain going on here. Assuming that their billions came from their elite -- sorry, unmatched -- skillsets (why else would they be so richly rewarded?), what happens to their companies, and all the money that would have trickled down to us?

It was great, until my brother-in-law started ranting about immigrants being given phones, and that's why people can't have dental care.

Every single school should have a library & a librarian, to help every single child find the books that will make them readers, and give them all the lifelong benefits of literacy. Libraries & librarians change children's lives FOREVER!
