Why are you so into it? If the meaning of a sentence can be clearly understood without it, what's the harm in leaving it out? I don't get the dogmatism around it. (I'm just asking out of curiosity).

Sometimes it's helpful; sometimes it's unnecessary. The millennial obsession with being dogmatic about it has had me confused for quite a while now. (Or at least it seems anecdotally a millennial thing to me).
