This past weekend, I had the pleasure of staying at Pluscarden Abbey in Scotland for a few days to sink into solitude, restoration, and nature. I've since returned back to my flat and city life, and really miss it. Highly recommend. #solotravel

On Friday, I had the joy of seeing Hamnet author Maggie O'Farrell at @waterstones.bsky.social in Edinburgh for the launch of her new picture book, When the Stammer Came to Stay. It was so great to hear her talk about stammering, her writing process, and see the beautiful illustrations.

Happy Thanksgiving! I don't have a before picture with all of the food including my contribution of baked mac & cheese and a separate tray full of cornbread. There is only the aftermath of a very full, very vegan friendsgiving.

I first read Octavia E. Butler in my master's program with Kindred and decided to pick up Parable of the Sower, which people have gone on about. Two days later, I bought Parable of the Talents. I haven't finished it yet, but it's so visceral, so spine-tingling, I need to make a cuppa tea at times.

Generally curious, writers of bsky: What's your preferred drink of choice when writing?

I alternate between coffee and tea. Coffee for early morning when I need to focus and tea for late morning/early afternoon and also decaffeinated work in the evening.

Having a cold reminds me of one of the texts we read during my master's in fantasy literature course: Howl's Moving Castle by Diana Wynne Jones. One of the most humorous (and dramatic) descriptions of a wizard who catches a cold I've ever read.

During my cold, I would like to give thanks to my lord and saviour during this trying time.

As a caregiver, the most surprising thing about ACOTAR isn't the inclusion of faeries or shape-shifting or murder. It's the fact that the main character is a caregiver and yet no one is talking about it.
