growing up like a fungus
This is normal :) I walk around the campus a lot in the early mornings and they are frequently out roaming around anywhere within ~1000 feet of the pres' house

I think maybe someone needs to tell them what that word means

my friend has been coaxing his old Macbook back to health. at its worst, the white light illuminating the logo on the back turned yellow. it literally fell ill. its overheating and fan malfunction was like running a fever with shortness of breath. meanwhile, my last phone just died instantaneously.

I thought that bluesky was genuinely pretty leftist, and it definitely is more so than Twitter or most other sites, but then the turbo-giga-cringe Newsom-posting took off and, well....

But trends show that cars in the US have been getting bigger and bigger over time especially with the massive rise in popularity of SUVs. Just look at the growth here since the 1970s in cars that are size-classified as 'trucks.'

aside from impracticality on European roads, don't all those same things apply to the American market as well?
August 26, 2025 at 11:55 AM
same, the longer time goes on the more surprised people are when I tell them lol

doesn't that just mean "after [the] youth admits to strange thefts"

because that's just his pretext. He is being petty, claiming they are more dangerous, when his real objective is simply to remove pride flags and any other type of symbol they don't like, across the only space he has jurisdiction over.

breathtaking
August 22, 2025 at 7:21 PM
I actually really want to, I just haven't had the opportunity!
August 18, 2025 at 3:31 PM
I don't doubt that there are other examples. But I'm sure you must recognize the absurdity of your claim that you have never once seen a biker follow basic safety precautions. That's astronomically unlikely and obviously comes from confirmation bias.
August 18, 2025 at 3:02 PM
If it's not hyperbolic then why did you bring up the story about someone riding through an intersection without looking or stopping? Why would that even be worth mentioning, if it's apparently something every rider does 100% of the time, according to your very own words?

I live along a highway with typical limits of 40 mph (but 50 is the de-facto), except by my house the signs say 25. However, not much about the road is actually physically different or demands different behavior from the driver. So people often do 30-40 mph regardless of the sign.
August 18, 2025 at 2:53 PM
Yeah. One interpretation of this point is to say "we should raise speed limits to match driver instincts." Another interpretation is to say that if you want to mandate a certain speed, you need to do more than just put up signs. The signs won't do much unless there's infrastructure to match.
August 18, 2025 at 2:51 PM
"Not once" is hyperbolic, don't you think? The fact that you present your anecdote as an exceptional instance of recklessness kind of underlies the fact that it is, in fact, exceptional.

Beyond that, there's a difference between a biker risking their own life, and a driver risking others'.

lmao I read a few paragraphs through that article before I realized they were trying to frame this as a bad thing

cause to my ears it sounds based as fuck 🔥🔥🔥
August 16, 2025 at 11:32 AM
Also true! It's probably even more specific than just "the rich." It's "rich people who are making money in ways that Trump approves of." but in any case, everyone is getting fucked by the tariffs.

well, except for the wealthy, who got a massive tax break in exchange for the Medicaid cuts

I also have a hard time working from home, but I feel like people should have the choice. Realistically, a lot of people are/have been commuting to work every day when they could be at home, and I don't see a good reason to force everyone into that if they don't want to.

yeah she's fine. she basically tanked the hit and ended up with a scar on her forehead and about a month of physical therapy for her leg. luckily the car was a smaller sedan... if it had been one of the pickups people around me like to drive, I shudder to think of what could have happened

My girlfriend was hit by a car while we were crossing the street a year ago. Weeks later, what did they install at the crossing? Not lights, not more visible paint, not a bulb-out, not bollards or anything like that - you guessed it, just these stupid flags. I'm too spiteful to use them
