Related: the gallbladder is covered in estrogen receptors. So the larger it swells, thanks to gallstones, the more estrogen it collects and feeds back to the system. Which means that removing it can cause a sudden drop in available estrogen. (For some patients this is great; others, not so much.)

I remember the first time I caught this on TV, during one jet lagged 2am or other, and was mortified. It seemed like a discarded Verhoeven gag.
