![IN DEFENSE OF CHRISTMAS
The Gradgrinds are getting busy again gunning for Father Christmas; are beginning he [sic] season early, think-him [sic], although thus far he has evaded their dire intention. This year they are beginning the season early thinking no doubt that by a persistent campaign long continued, they can accomplish their gloomy designs upon him.
The Council of National Defense proposes to join the anti-Christmas party by urging the public to confine Christmas giving this year to "postcards and letters". Its fell purposes is not only to make [sic] the innocent joy out of the day, but to inflict a positive nuisance and aggravation in its stead.
"Postcards and letters" indeed! The postal card is the lowest form of epistolary intercourse in existence; it is the makeshift of the illerate [sic] and the inconsiderate; it is meaningless and senseless, fragmentary, exasperating and unforgiveable as a means of conveying human thought.
