Rob Pike gave a guest lecture for COMP1531 UNSW a few years back, and I have enormous respect for his software engineering abilities. He is spot on here. AI is a blight upon us and our planet.
Fuck you people. Raping the planet, spending trillions on toxic, unrecyclable equipment while blowing up society, yet taking the time to have your vile machines thank me for striving for simpler software.

Just fuck you. Fuck you all.

I can't remember the last time I was this angry.

#NixOS is a very-hyped #Linux distribution. As with all very-hyped things, I'm pretty sure that it's overrated, and there are better alternatives,,,, right?

This is a re-recording of a presentation I gave LIVE@LNSC 2025. I'd love to know what you think!

Knowing that AI is an ethical nightmare, I'd love some opinions on this question:

As a teacher, is it ethical to use AI to attempt my course's assignments to understand how the current capabilities of AI compare to my students, and to learn to better-recognise what AI-generated solutions look like?

Hey @theabigailthorn.bsky.social! I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to cite your work in my latest essay (in particular your discussion of "penis detection machines").

If you've got time, I'd be honoured if you'd give it a read: maddyguthridge.com/blog/ai-is-a...

Zero pressure, of course!

After months of research and hours of time writing, I have finally finished my latest essay: "AI is a capitalist hell-scape. What do we do now?"

I'd love to get your thoughts on my work!

When people say "sure he opposes trans rights but at least he's moderate enough to be electable", they are basically saying "I am willing to sacrifice the lives of trans people in the hope of convincing centrists to vote for my candidate". This is not acceptable to me.

I wrote a new blog post discussing an example I use to teach object-oriented programming. I'd love to hear your thoughts!

Imagine you're a music app on your deathbed, knowing that in a few minutes you'll be sucked up into a vortex and rained down upon Sibelius, MuseScore and Dorico in a hurricane of blood, so you ask for a story to calm your fear.

AI decision-making can be ethical, but is that enough?

I finally got around to publishing an essay I wrote late last year. If you're interested, I'd love to get your thoughts!
