We’d rather not be assaulted, abused and at risk of harm in the first place - let alone the fact that these crimes are rarely successfully charged and convicted, further empowering abusers and making victims, and future victims, more unsafe.

Criminalisation of sex offences and abuse of women and girls has hardly reduced said abuses, if anything you could argue it’s fostered an increase as a result of so many legitimate cases going unheard and abusers walking free, assaults going undeterred. We need education in schools, stop misogyny

Having had my first spiking incident a few months ago, I have to admit, it’s a real fear now for public spaces, never felt so powerless and vulnerable as I did afterwards. But I can’t help but feel it’s too hard to recognise and prove at the time, that criminalisation isn’t a solution, education is
