Latest academic hot take: it is gross and inhumane and wrong that obituaries are ever held behind a paywall that publishers profit from

Home from Indonesia with jet lag, sun burn, and a 3-page to-do list of things I want to write and read and people I want to talk to.

I had the best time ever meeting with old and new collaborators and chatting about education reform and how to do things better 🇮🇩💜

In Bali for the “Psychology from the East, Psychology from the West” conference 🇮🇩 🏝️

Today I spoke about how the “embracing” of AI in education may contribute to the dehumanisation of both students and educators, ft a lively discussion about @olivia.science et al’s paper on uncritical adoption

Had a lovely lovely time chatting about what could be the (inclusive, collaborative, reflexive) future of open science at @astonpsychology.bsky.social this week. Thanks @drcpennington.bsky.social for hosting me and chatting open science non-stop for 3 full days 📚

This morning I gave a talk in beautiful Norrköping about how scientific credibility may be enhanced by embracing mess and bias, rather than clinging to objectivity and a PhD student gifted me this sticker that says “scientific objectivity? Girl please”. I love it here 🇸🇪💕

So excited to be heading to lovely Sweden next week to give a talk to Linköping University about reflexivity and research integrity and to give my first public lecture at the Norrköping Visualiseringscenter about the history of women in science reform! 🔭✨

Hugely recommend going on holiday alone and getting spontaneous silly little tattoos of your life philosophy

Currently on a one-woman tour of all of the best book shops and cafes in Barcelona. I am having an unbelievably lovely time 📚☕️ 🌻

Writing today about how advocates for open science and metascience need to read more 1980s feminist psychology before they claim too boldly that their ideas are new. I've never enjoyed writing anything as much as this

I’ve spent the past 1.5 years working on this baby and now she’s finally off to the publishers for the last time!💖

In a nutshell, the book shows how the work of women in psychology is important and clever and disruptive, but has been woefully neglected by our discipline. Writing this has been a joy

Celebrating one year of being married to this legend by watching TV and drinking tea at home in my wedding dress. I feel an annual tradition coming on

I love Registered Reports because it's no fun wrestling with reviewers about design decisions that we can do nothing about after data collection. But still, SO few journals in my research area accept them.

So I just fired off a load of this email. Here if you want to do the same: osf.io/n6bx9

My comment about open research and qualitative methods is out! I argue that open research needs to take seriously the notion that "rigour" looks different for different methods and can learn from qualitative traditions. It feels very apt to be at #QMIP2025 for this publication day rdcu.be/evEpk

Had SUCH a nice day today at the @qmip.bsky.social #QMiP2025 conference. I spoke about how we need to actively resist some of the sloppy mandates for open research/science practices that are not (always) epistemologically compatible with qualitative methods. (And there was iced coffee and cake)

New paper with @raechel.bsky.social and Prof @emilynordmann.bsky.social, where we show how some open research tools (e.g., Registered Reports, pre-prints, and sharing Open Educational Resources) may be strategically useful for education-focused (or "T&S") academics.

My #Metascience2025 take homes:
1️⃣ People are great
2️⃣ I LOVE hearing people call out the hostility that is associated with science reform
3️⃣ Let's try now move beyond writing nice papers and start building the evidence (ie the 'science' of metascience)
4️⃣ Let’s also keep talking about research culture

"Science is not, and has never been, a neutral endeavour... the notion that researchers can or should cleanse themselves of bias is untenable, potentially intellectually dishonest, and ethically fraught."

New preprint with the (brilliant) Sarahanne Field #Metascience2025

Had a great, thought-provoking time sitting on the panel about how feminist research and metascience are aligned. Our big argument = metascience IS feminist. It’s asking fundamental questions about knowledge, power, and credibility. We just have never framed it like this explicitly #Metascience2025

Stunning talk by @crsugimoto.bsky.social opening day 2 of #Metascience2025 including an explicit acknowledgement of how the language of metascience is being co-opted and weaponised by US science policy
July 1, 2025 at 8:25 AM
Team Open Qualitative Research are here at #Metascience2025! It is 10 billion degrees but so far it’s been a fun day of chatting about science evaluation, support for Early Career Researchers, and critical metascience. And we have ice cream🍦☀️

Headed to #Metascience2025! 🚂🌻

I'll be on a panel about how feminist concerns are related to metascientific concerns & presenting the POSTEdu programme led by @leticiarmicheli.bsky.social.

If anyone wants to chat about: reflexivity, bias, methods, or how metascience can be kinder, let me know! ☕

Spoke to T-FUN yesterday about our work which calls for pedagogical researchers to continue engaging in metascience to interrogate the constructs and methods that we use, with a case study of research on the 'imposter phenomenon'. It was lots of fun!
