1.10 I'm in the blanket fort
(A middle grade book)

On the Edge of the Dark Sea of Darkness by Andrew Peterson. A fun book that 12-year-old me would have read until the cover fell off. A little slow in the beginning, and a bit predictable, but cute nonetheless.

You've been kidnapped. The characters from the last TV show you watched are trying to rescue you. Who's coming to save you?

2.7 You're gonna stab me in the back right in front of me?
(A book about loyalty or betrayal)

A Matter of Oaths by Helen S. Wright. A fantastic space opera with a touch of mystery and a super cute romance - a normalized queer romance to boot, from a book published in 1988.

Nice.

(I giggled way too much, because I am apparently a child.)

1.8 I bet there's some insane foliage
(A book with plants on the cover)

Homegrown Magic by Jamie Pacton & Rebecca Podis. A lovely cozy fantasy romance that was warm and relaxing. I just felt good while reading it.

2.4 Maybe don't listen to a man who's becoming a bird
(A book featuring shape shifting)

The Ruthless Lady's Guide to Wizardry by C.M. Waggoner. I wanted to like this more than I did. I liked the writing style, but it would have benefitted from being about 100 pages shorter.

I spent my extra hour today finally getting my favorites* framed and on the wall.

*I only had 16 frames, I'll put up the rest around the house when I get more.

2.1 There's a box in my mind
(A book about trauma or secrets)

Camp Damascus by Chuck Tingle. Appropriately themed for spooky season, a solid horror novel where a gay conversion camp is literally diabolical.

2.8 It's about belonging to something
(A book featuring a found family)

The Cartographers by Peng Shepherd. I liked it, was a neat mystery, but I kept feeling like something was missing from it. Not sure what exactly was missing, but I was waiting for something more.

Two chandeliers? That's overkill!

2.6 A guilt room
(A book with gold on the cover)

The Princess Bride by William Goldman. This is my favorite book in all the world. The illustrations in this edition make it even better.

If you love the movie (it's also my favorite movie), the book beats it by a mile.

1.3 It’s juice, from the nose jar
(A book with a face on the cover)

The Spirit Bares Its Teeth by Andrew Joseph White. Didn't expect to love it as much a I did. Never have been much for horror, but this was wonderful. The trans & neurodivergent mc was fantastic.

1.6 It was an elderly gentleman with a hook...for a head!
(A book featuring legends or mythology)

On A Pale Horse by Piers Anthony. Good book when you look past the misogyny. Thankfully, the main character of Death was likable and made me want to keep reading.

1.1 What we’re about to do will be perilous
(The first book in a series)

Dungeon Crawler Carl by Matt Dinniman. My first foray into LitRPG, and I'm not sure about it. It was fun, but the middle was roo much exposition for me. Maybe it's just me though.

1.7 My teeth keep falling out, is that normal?
(A book with an orange cover)

Lolly Willowes by Sylvia Townsend Warner, because whomst among us has not wanted to run away to the woods and become a witch? An early piece of feminist literature that made me feel all toasty inside.
October 1, 2025 at 9:49 PM
2.2 We're tender as hell
(A book featuring queer characters)

Running Close to the Wind by Alexandra Rowland. The main character could have been annoying, but it's so superbly written that he's completely lovable. Very fun book!

2.5 A safe space ship
(A science fiction book or a book set on a ship.)

The Mercy of Gods by James S. A. Corey. A group of humans are kidnapped from one foreign world and taken to another. Some excellent psychological analysis in this.
