You can hide a lot of corruption in a collar gap, too.

There is something to be said about the way the untouchable elite flaunt their status by openly disregarding the most basal rules of etiquette or grammar or logic or dignity or respect or discretion. It's perverse and bestial.

Did you know Brazil is the only country where the Equator and the Tropic of Capricorn cross over? The sun shines directly overhead Brazilians for half the year through the December solstice.

When you mount signs like these the sign maker sends you a life-size drawing of the sign with the location of the mounting posts for each letter. Either the "T" was wrongly placed in the drawing, there was something in the wall, or they moved the drawing after they started drilling holes.

To be clear, the White House lettering is not bad. It is well made and mounted but I don't think a calligraphic typeface has the gravitas for a public building. I would have chosen an ALL CAPS Roman style serif typeface in cast bronze with beveled edges, finished with a dark green verdigris patina.

The president is correct that his lettering is half-inch thick. But they aren't bronze. They are brass with ANSI standard 605 bright brass finish. The backside of each letter would have threaded posts epoxied into holes drilled into the wall.

I worked in shops that made museum exhibits and cast bronzes. The letters in the White House video is standard from Gemini Signs--CNC waterjet cut sheet metal with hand-filed corners, sanded, and plated. The Waldorf-Astoria bronzes were sand-cast from plaster copies of hand-carved clay originals.

Okay, but Vivek‘s thesis isn’t that anti-intellectualism is bad. He’s arguing that American engineers don’t have jobs because they are lazy and engage in indulgence. It’s juvenile as it is evil. Every tech CEO was making this pitch during the Biden era to increase H1B visa numbers.
