they really need to explain the checkpoint system better, because the cancel menu dialogue scared everyone into marathoning it instead of taking breaks like they intended

anywhere where you go to a different map -- going to the desert dream, going back to the Curatorium, loading the inside of the secret hideout, etc

you usually lose less than like ten minutes of progress

the only reason they're agreeing on it is because their dear leader told them to, and he is only fine with it because they're going to be heavily redacted to save him from any mentions 🙃

you can press the menu button and escape that way and it saves your progress for you from the latest area transition!

you can quit any time it loads a new area and it'll save from that transition, they just don't do a good job of telling you that 🥲
