Wow, I just tried it at your recommendation and I'm just blown away by the quality - even in French!

Every year, my students get a tour of my house and meet my little kids who were really little in 2020. There's always that aaaaww factor. ❤️

I wonder how helpful this comparative judgement is in cases where we don't have a large number of writing samples.

Yes, very interesting. There was a small study in Germany where they checked an all-AI approach to grading and found that the AI is inconsistent in its judgement and favours AI-produced texts.

Thank you, this is very helpful! I'm still learning Chinese and Duolingo is not helping at all... But I feel like experiencing what I get frustrated with helps me become a better teacher!

I teach English and French in Germany, and by comparison English practically teaches itself while teaching French is really really hard work.

As for Bloom, it's probably not even "remembering" I'd say. Have you tried Duolingo for learning a language from scratch?
February 17, 2025 at 3:26 PM
When I'm learning Chinese on Duolingo I feel like I'm not progressing because it's just choosing the chunks from available options, I don't need to produce anything from memory. I can recognize, but not produce.
February 17, 2025 at 3:26 PM
Probably because Duolingo doesn't have stories in all languages and its main feature are the translation and recognition tasks that don't require deep processing.
