There remains a lot of misinformation about the concept of the immunity gap. This does not mean getting infected is good. It also does not mean that we need pathogens for immune development. It also is not a recent observation or "invention".

For the vast majority history, childhood diseases meant 50%+ of our kids would die before aged 5.

Now, for the first time in the history of humanity, the loss of a child through disease at that age is a tragic rarity.
