Smoking and sight loss. Research shows that smoking significantly increases the risk of developing age-related macular degeneration (AMD). Current smokers face up to four times the risk compared to non-smokers, and smoking can accelerate AMD progression and reduce the effectiveness of treatment. Image in background of a no smoking sign.
