Being insulted by a parent or adult in younger years is a top 3 correlate of suicidal ideation in sexual or gender minorities. Lack of family support and acceptance can also lead to a lack of healthcare for these individuals. Counseling parents could make a world of difference. #PADP4200

Income disparity can cause vaccine inequity. In an ecological study done during COVID 19, high-income countries had higher vaccination rates than lower-income countries. Vaccine policy and access are more prioritized in countries with higher economic status. #PADP4200

Funds from the Master Settlement Agreement for tobacco were allocated to states based on the number of smokers in the population and expenditures through Medicaid on smoking-related illnesses. This left states with little incentive to try to reduce smoking so they could receive more money. #PADP4200

During the Reagan admin, methadone clinics were neglected because they were perceived (through the lenses of stigma, racism, and political ideology) as spaces of moral failure rather than public health initiatives that would combat the drug crisis and the HIV epidemic of the American 80’s #PADP4200

When students were barred from purchasing cannabis, in a study done by Oliver Marie and Ulf Zolitz, positive academic performance increased, especially for women and low performers to begin with. Was cannabis the problem, or would results be similar with removal of any other distractions? #PADP4200

There is a lot to learn about bans on marijuana from the Prohibition Era! Attacking the problem from the supply side usually fails. Profits from banned goods are high enough that they are worth the risk. Thus, crime rates in both scenarios increased, leaving us with prisons filled. #PADP4200
