The Flint Institute of Arts has an exhibition “MI Ink: The Art of Tattoo” highlighting Michigan talent and tattoo history. It’s pretty fun and not what you’d typically see at an art museum. I was so excited to see a What We Do in the Shadows tattoo!

I couldn’t decide which was funnier tonight, a grasshopper jump scaring me or catching a couple in the act, but I was just picking arugula leaves in the near dark when a raccoon came around the corner and we were almost face to face before it took off. I’m not sure which of us was more startled! 🌱

My kitchen has become endless ever-changing piles of drying herbs and flowers, especially for salts and teas. Cookie sheets in the stove, cutting boards layered on pans, half-filled jars everywhere. It smells wonderful. 🌱🍜

My first time harvesting fennel pollen, although I have no idea what I’ll use it for. I left lots for the wasps that are all over the plant. 🌱

Not really relevant, but Jean Delville’s drawing of Merrill’s wife literally changed my life when I saw it in an art history class as a teenager and became obsessed with Symbolist art.

More northern Michigan weirdness. Giant metal heads and the “World's Largest Steering Wheel.” The signage was vaguely threatening, so we didn’t get very close.

I feel extremely anxious in rural northern Michigan, but the roadside sights are top notch. Spotted today: a large skeletal chicken, life sized fiberglass bear and metal buffalo, a scarecrow riding a tractor, and signs for a “gospel tent revival,” elk crossing, and Amish buggy crossing.
