But Bluesky is not the limit! Many more apps and experiences are already starting to emerge.

We hope that Bluesky, as the first app, will be a catalyst for change to transform how social media works, like a butterfly flapping its wings.

“Bluesky” was originally a placeholder name for the project started by Twitter to build an open social protocol. I kept it because it’s memorable and symbolizes the open space of possibilities: the Twitter bird freed from a closed platform to fly in Bluesky’s open ecosystem.

Why a butterfly? Well, of course, it flies. But more importantly, it is a symbol of change and transformation.

Early on, people started using the 🦋 emoji to indicate they were on Bluesky. We’ve now officially adopted it, as it speaks to our mission of transforming social media into something new.

• Fixed an issue that would sometimes cause modals to float to the top of the screen.
• Android post-composer should no longer get squished.
