The pro-Trump party exposed its face to the world in the Oval Office today.

The American people need to reckon with the mess Trump and Vance are making of this country’s once-good name—and the services they are performing for dictators and aggressors. There may not be a deep cause here. Trump likes and admires bad people because he is himself a bad person.

American allies urgently need a Plan B for collective security in a world where the U.S. administration prefers Vladimir Putin to Zelensky.

But what if the loyalties were not clandestine, not secret? What if a leader just plain blurted out on national television that he despises our allies, rejects treaties, and regards a foreign adversary as a personal friend? What if he did it again and again?

Both [Trump and Vance] showed the U.S.-led alliance system something it needed urgently to know: The national-security system of the West is led by two men who cannot be trusted to defend America’s allies—and who deeply sympathize with the world’s most aggressive dictator.

If the Trump administration is successful in cutting US government spending more than 12% weekly, (fill in your deity here) save us all.

Mark my words, or maybe that’s bookmark my post, and make a note in your calendar to come back in July/August and see if I my crystal ball was crystal clear.

As what I expect to be increasingly negative economic reports come out for February, people will hunker down and increasingly save for the upcoming bad times. Companies will cut back on planned investment and employment, leading to more economic shrinkage.

Plus I expect that thousands, or maybe even hundreds of thousands, of US government workers are already cutting back on their spending given the uncertainty of their continued employment.

So don’t count on the private sector to spend more.

But increased private sector spending takes time to implement - have you already gone out and spent more in the last 3 weeks and are you planning to spend even more over the next several months? You didn’t, did you?

So if they are successful at cutting just 12% of the weekly US government spending without increased offsetting private sector spending, US economic growth will drop to zero.

While it’s not feasible to come up with an exact amount of US government spending was/is frozen, the US economy grew approximately $15.05 billion per week in 2024.

The US economy fell into a recession, and possibly a depression, starting at the end of January due to the current administration’s government spending freeze.

On average, the US Gross Domestic Product is $537.3 billion per week, of which $129.8 billion per week is US government spending.
