I was adopted solely because I was female. Had I been born male, my adoptive parents would have selected another baby. "You're still an object" is a true and painful awareness for adoptees.

Yes, their/our entire reality is being untethered is very well said. Rebuilding the gigantic network of stories we've told ourselves our whole lives about who we are and where we are from and why we are the way we are...all of it shifts. It is hard work to do and even harder to do alone. 💖
