The film separates "life" and "work". Explicitely, when Victor describes how he was distracted from his work with death by finally "living". Only after all his hopes for a relationship with Elizabeth (living) are shattered can he truly solve death.

Victor's red gloves was such a gorgeous motif. Whenever he was working his hands were literally red with blood. The gloves are a visual signifier to separate "working Victor" and "living Victor".

They are very narrative-heavy games that play like visual novels with mini-games and dice rolling.
