Does anybody know why/how the price for similar video cards, from two different manufacturers, can wildly be different? Even for non-LC ones, what happened to $1999? No price control from NVidia?

Just finished. Agree on conclusion, not really a home appliance. "Home" Depot sells them online and seem to have more models than the manufacturers website, incl. one with "Pharmaceutical" in name, and a $5000 XL-tray model. Tons of reviews on the $5k tells me something about target market.
