It is a "post-apocalyptic short story by American writer Harlan Ellison. The story is set against the backdrop of World War III, where a sentient supercomputer named AM, born from the merging of the world's major defense computers, eradicates humanity except for five individuals."

A bit overwhelmed with the insanity of the American Bullshit and now moving myself+ to a new place 2+ hours away.
Making sure I get workouts in amidst my personal and the national chaos. 🏋️🏃‍♀️ 😅

I'm reminded of Henry Rollins...... 😏

Below explains:
1. Why few ancient megafauna fossils are found in NY state.
2. Glaciers covered the area north of Allegheny Plateau.
3. Movement from freezing & thawing created the Finger Lakes that are just N of the Plateau.
4. But a nearly intact mastodon was excavated in Hyde Ark area!

Brachiopoda or mollusc?
August 3, 2025 at 4:31 PM
Hiked a trail known for #fossils in #Denovian-age rocks. Found several coral fossils. One resembles a bivalve mollusk, but possibly a Brachiopoda.
This region of NY state was covered by ancient seaway during the Devonian. Glaciers upturned & moved limestone bed over area N of the Allegheny plateau.

Lunch with much anticipated book on megafauna #paleontology & #paleoecology with a #SouthAmerica perspective The bulk of literature in these fields centers on N America, ignoring the southern continent.
Nature doesn’t acknowledge man-made borders.

Today I’m going where…..

How many others have been one of these characters doing field work? I’m 6 of 10. 😏
The favorite moments of my career.
Thank you #TomGauld for reminding us of the joy and irony of being #scientists.

I met this handsome fella last month. He had many interesting stories. Also cautioned our species that we should heed how we’ve damaged the #planet & our lack of atoning for it.
“Your appetite for things is too big and uncontrollable. That’s why I’m here. To warn you.”
Then he asked me for a date.

Discovered a gem: a #Monotrope (ghost plant).
Never seen one this pastel color nor upright. The flowers are usually pendulous in all others I’ve seen (Oregon & New Mexico). Not sure if this is M. hypopitys or M. uniflora.
They are non-photosynthesizing so are parasitic. #botany

For all you #paleobiology parents.

Logged 5.4 miles on trails today. Haven’t hiked this much since 2019 & the Lyme’s disease then COVID horror.
It reminded me how much I belong in the natural world. It gives me sustenance and peace. It’s where my friends are & we don’t need names. It’s OK to just ‘be’.
