Before I wrap it up i'd like to mention a funny bug we had during playtest with my homeboy @luzxe.bsky.social.

When 2 players would throw papers at a 3rd one, the bounce animation the player makes when being hit with a paper, wouldn't fully play leaving the player a little bit bigger each time.

Because YES, the layout was also a fucking mess. Since we decided halfway trough production to add some new dope ass roles, we had to adjust the courtroom accordingly. It took hell of a while to stick to a plan but thanks to @lounaboutayeb.bsky.social and @feerey.bsky.social's plan we worked it out.

Making the texture for the courtroom was quite a mess cause we went trought lots of concept and trials before setting on a definitive colors. We really wanted to iterate and find the best color scheme for each one.

So cause i'm a lazy ass, i only made a single animation for the 3 courtroom.

Meaning the 3 trapdoors had to be at the exact same height and had to also have the exact same center of mass since they are not rigged but directly animated as object in unity.

There is also a specific behavior that I wanted optimized for the courtroom: whenever the judge chooses to give a verdict, his table has a little hidden trapdoor that reveals and turn around. (My goddamn idea 💀).

Alright now the environment!! 😼 We have 3 courtrooms in the game that were made with blender.

Regular courtroom, Medieval courtroom, and SCIFI courtroom ✌️

The challenge with these courtrooms was to keep the exact same location of the different assets and puppets but changing considerably the look

HOWEVER (yet again.....) Some of our hats required some skinning like the Pharaoh crown (which is pretty fucking big). So they had to be rigged in unity then using some dark magic code i found online, so that the bones could be reassigned to the mesh without being imported all together.

Regarding the hats and face customs, we had to directly import them to unity and then manually place them in the bone hierarchy within the engine.

Most of our face and hats cosmetics aren't skinned and are just directly parented to a specific bone.

So, every suit is classed in it's function, cause in the game specific roles gives you specific suits you cannot wear otherwise.

This is our simple hierarchy in blender where we export all the skinned mesh within a specific group that we can easily gather and update in Unity 👍😼

Now let's talk about fashion.

I had to model a lot of different customisation item, so that YOU 👉, can have a super cool customisation to fit the EXACT thing you want to bring in the courtroom.

Since I don't want to spoil every suit available in the game, here's them all worn at once in blender.

Anyway fun stuff I also wanted to mentionned, thanks to our awesome concept @feerey.bsky.social artist we went from tiny stupid eyes to big ass sexy eyes. 😍😼

HOWEVER (bis), we still found a use for the mouth rig, as we had to animate over 20 seconds of lip synch for the intro of our new trailer. 😼😼😼

However we decided that we'd rather have a "procedural" way of handling things at runtime since it would give a more "puppet" look in game and would match the player's speech too. (Overall it was way funier).

In Unity we had to use some "look at" magic and "Ik component" stuff to work it out ...

So First thing i want to mention is our Puppet rig. NGL i had some pretty hard time adjusting the rig to the production.

Since the initial direction of the game wasn't really clear and I did not really knew how things were gonna go I planned to have a rig that would allow mouth animation in unity
