Installed my works at 1001 Pots today, and felt quite proud of how everything just hangs well together. The show runs July 4-August 17, 2025, in Val-David, Québec, & showcases over a 100 potters & ceramicists. I'll be in the galery! www.1001pots.com?lang=en

Planning my wall display for 1001 Pots' 36th annual show, which runs Friday, July 4 - Sunday, August 17, in Val-David, QC.

My display will be in the gallery (right side of the path to the main grounds). If you're in the Laurentians, come visit and take a look: there's over 100 ceramicists on show.

A turning dial of some kind... I'll probably make the dial red or orange, and the bit underneath looks like a good candidate for Pinnell's weathered bronze. I continue to delight in adding moveable bits to my compositions.

Photos from last weekend's wood firing. We camped, cooked over a fire, bantered, burned about a cord of wood over 34 hours & toasted the finish with saké. Gratitude to the early morning crew who started it at 2 AM & to the night crew who babysat it overnight (and fretted while it was stalling) xoxo

Another #Metallic from the most recent glaze firing. Not _entirely_ pleased with the blue underglaze on the "H-beam" section; further thought needed. Still, I'm happy the red stirrup thingmie still rotates inside the blue ring thingmie (I speak advanced technical jargon, y'all).

💦💧💦 The water-themed #Metallic came out pretty dang great! I'll do some touch-ups with acrylic inks to fix a spot or two that I don't like, and it'll be ready to wire up for hanging. The red tap still turns as well. I am pleased.

Glazing pots outside for a wood firing. Oh! The freedom to splash, drip & make a mess is so liberating! It also makes me feel connected to the long tradition of pottery around the world, often done out of doors. In case you're wondering, I'm testing out a Malcolm Davis carbon trap shino.

June is Pride Month and I identify as an LGBTQ+ ally.

It's among my core values that love is love, and that folks of all walks of life, gender identification and sexual preferences should able to thrive, to live their lives safely, free of harassment, hatred, assault, or worse. Be an ally too!

This little bouquet of spirea boughs (which I banged into a vase after giving the bush encroaching on the front steps a hasty clip) is such a delight today.

Another #Metallic destined for the next glaze kiln. In case it's not obvious enough, this one's about water. 💦

Applying underglaze to a bisqued piece. Lots of fiddly corners and nooks to reach into. After that, there was lots of messing around with iron and manganese oxide washes to give it a "fresh from the junkyard" look.

Hopefully it'll make it into a glaze kiln next weekend!

I'm girding myself to glaze some pots for the upcoming woodfiring. I've got a few more buckets to sieve + check for specific gravity. I like planning + making glazes, but I HATE applying them in general (because I'm shite at it).

Also, here's a cat tax to atone for my whingeing.

Got this #Metallic back from the studio's last glaze load. I'm pleased with how it came out. The lid didn't get stuck & still slides side to side! As always, these wall pieces can be installed in any desired orientation, and combined with other Metallics.

I finished this #Metallic together. It's now drying on the studio's bisque rack. I've really gotten into making playful sculptures that have moving parts; that way, folks can interact with them, not just look at them.

Here, have a cute kitty, because I was so focused today on making art that I completely forgot to document my process.

Plus, I think folks generally prefer cat photos to photos of post-industrial magical-realism art in the making. Cats are just so relatable.

I began the day carefully fabricating components for a composition I had in mind for this half-pipe #Metallic piece, annnnnnd I ended up going in another direction 😂!

Now I'm plotting a rotating attachment that fit inside the opening. Who knows how _that_ will turn out!

The Secret Architecture of Things: I started a new half pipe sculpture this week. I brace my forms to keep them as stiff as possible so the result looks like a piece of pitted, rusted machinery. At first, the underside often looks more interesting than the blank canvas I've made.

🇨🇦 Yesterday, I stood up for Canadian #democracy as a deputy returning officer at a polling station. It was intense, and I was so tired at the end and so proud. Our team worked hard to serve everyone who came to vote. If you doubt Canada's voting system, sign up as an election worker next time.
