"Soggy" was the closest I got, from a scene that will probably end up cut. I like it, but it doesn't really fit the plot, and also feels out-of-voice for Hazel. But you get to enjoy it anyway. 😜

Which one do you want?” *You are the most beautiful creature that has ever existed on this godforsaken planet,* I think, but all that comes out of my mouth is a wet gurgle. I clear my throat and try again, this time managing to croak out a petulant semblance of my regular voice. “What flavor of Gatorade?” “Blue.” I stick out a hand and make grasping motions in his direction, and am rewarded with a perspiring plastic bottle whose cap has already been loosened. Which is good because I’m reasonably certain that the slightest amount of adversity at this point would crumple me like a soggy toilet paper tube. I swallow half the bottle in one go, keeping my eyes closed the whole time. I bring the bottle back down into my lap, briefly uncertain if it’s all going to come right back up or not, but once I’m fairly certain that I’m not going to turn my bed into a Smurf crime scene, I crack an eye open and look up at Zeke. He’s got a pleasantly neutral expression on his face, but who knows what that actually means. *Like I don’t have enough trouble determining other people’s emotions.*

This is too much, too soon after my breakdown, and I can’t handle what he’s saying, can’t argue with what he’s telling me, can’t *think*— “I have to go, Zeke. I’m going to take a walk, and when I get back we can talk more about this. Please, just—just don’t do anything until I get back, okay?” I stand up and stumble blindly from the couch to the front door, shedding my blanket cocoon and jamming my feet into my shoes before shoving my way out the front door into the hostile world outside.

But all it actually is is me avoiding confronting the fact that I kissed Zeke, while in full control of my faculties, and… I didn’t hate it. Oh, who am I kidding? I liked it. A lot. I probably wouldn’t mind doing it again. Which, naturally, terrifies me. So, I’m finding ways to keep “busy,” a state of affairs that probably would have continued until the heat death of the universe, except that, in the true spirit of Murphy’s Law, something even more terrifying happens.

Plus I found his charger under the bed in my old room.” She pauses for a second while I make indignant noises about her snooping, then adds: “Also I’m pretty sure I designed his hands.” “I knew you were up to something when you demanded to read our palms!” “Yeah, well, you don’t spend a month working out a dynamic fractal generator to create unique palm creases without learning to recognize your own work.”
