Most people don't value their privacy as much as they should -- either through ignorance or ambivalence. So just enough of them will go with the program -- and then these penalties become normalized.

So when the health insurance companies want you to pay an extra $2000 a month for not hooking your health info up to AI -- are you going to pay that extra $2k a month?

My words aren't in support of these programs -- just voicing the reality -- companies happily exploit their users for maximum profit, and there's money to be made in data acquisition, so they'll make you pay extra for your privacy, while dressing it up as "some kind of discount".

It'll be like the auto insurance companies, you know how they incentivize you to carry beacons in your car to "grade your driving" for discounts?

Because they'll jack the base premiums up, so that you have to accept their shit to get the $ back down to normal'ish.
