I set the to-do list aside yesterday and spent the afternoon in my woods. Sometimes the best work you can do is taking care of yourself. 🌿

Oh, sure. I love how my creative brain waits until bedtime to start drafting novels, rearranging bookstore shelves, and mentally scripting awkward conversations. Sleep is totally overrated anyway. Thanks, imagination. You’re the best. #CreativeInsomnia #WhoNeedsRest #AuthorLife #SendHelp

Drove to St. Louis yesterday with a thunderstorm keeping me company. Plenty of rain, a bit of wind, and lightning showing off in the distance. At least the two thunderstorms were scattered.

When I was little, my mom used to mix tomato soup and chicken noodle soup together. My brother John and I thought it was gourmet cuisine. We’d come in from playing in the snow, red-cheeked and frozen, and slurp it down like royalty. To this day, I still think of that weird combo as comfort food.

This isn’t a pretty desk setup post.

It’s 5:00 AM, I’m lying in bed working on my phone, and this is what building a bookstore, a writing career, a speaking platform, and a life around books really looks like.

Coming soon: a YouTube channel where we ditch the polish and tell the real story.

There’s just something about the way my puppies snuggle up against me that makes everything feel okay. No big life epiphanies, just a quiet reminder that love doesn’t have to be loud.

Little paws, warm fur, and sleepy sighs. That’s the kind of peace I’ll take any day.

Rainy days and editing just go together. The sound of rain on the metal roof sets the perfect pace for slowing down and digging in.

I’ve got my tea, a stack of pages, and that steady rhythm overhead keeping me company. It’s nothing fancy, but it feels just right.

I love the woods. It’s my go-to place when I need to breathe.

But then there are ticks.

Tiny, sneaky, soul-sucking little vampires who have absolutely no respect for personal space.

There’s just something about being out there that feels like home.

My daughter got me hooked on the Merlin Bird ID app, and now I’m that person standing in the yard with tea, listening for birds.

What started as her hobby has become one of my favorite quiet joys.

Thanks, kid. You turned me into a bird nerd, and I kind of love it.

Sat outside yesterday listening to cicadas like it’s my backyard version of live music. These little guys wait over a decade just to yell non-stop for a few weeks. Honestly, I respect the drama. Might adopt this model for myself.

I finished the first draft of Shellwyn yesterday. It’s the Prequel to Awakening coming out November 15. Shellwyn is a short story I wrote to introduce readers to the land of Thistalyn. Releasing it for free to my email subscribers. A prequel that’s actually coming out BEFORE the main attraction.

My heart is with everyone dealing with storm and flood damage, loss, or just the sheer emotional weight of it all.

We don’t have to come back at full speed. We just have to come back.

Hang in there.

I was interviewed this morning by WLKY News. They are doing a feature on the bookstore and the gofundme we have set up for the cafe/wine bar expansion!
