Walking on many-centuries-old glacier ice is always a special experience. ❄️🩵❄️ But between 2021 and 2024, melt rates of glaciers in western Canada, US NW, and Switzerland, doubled compared to melt rates of the previous decade. Report published in the journal Geophysical Research Letters.

It's not easy to write about how it feels to watch our glaciers melt, places I and fellow mountaineers have shared adventures and memories. But this exquisite, haunting photo exhibit made it easier. Read my feature story in Alberta Views. #glaciers #unglacieryearcanada #protectourwinterscanada

I was super happy to finally visit this site in my home mountains, the #CanadianRockies. This spectacular archway was created by gushing water, sunlight and heat sculpting a tunnel through glacier ice last summer. It won't last long when temps warm up. #glaciers #unglacieryearcanada #storiesofice

A Snow crane fly is an insect that survives through the winter - it is believed during the larvae stage it floods its tissues with glycerol, a natural antifreeze. Always cool to see one, this one just before New Year's Day. Yoho National Park, Canadian Rockies. #winter #snowmagic #Snowcranefly
