Montreal food writer & independent journalist, cookbook author & mag columnist (Elle Quebec, Vero). History buff. Et oui, je suis franco.
Reading about the "death" of Google-research leveraging web site traffic because AI now answers first and directly. Which today, following a question of mine, gave: "It's highly unlikely that Prince Andrew will resume public royal duties or visit Sainte-Rose, Laval, QC." Darn, I had hoped. Not. 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️

Trump has removed, or tried to, 3 women from leading roles in art institutions: Deborah Rutter at Kennedy Center, Carla Hayden at Library of Congress and now Sajet at Smithsonian. The same happened in military. I’m surprised women are not up in arms and making this front page news… :(

A first for me, tonight I came across a cookbook sold on Amazon and transparent (?) enough to list ChatGPT as a co-author. Just wow. Has anyone seen other books partly credited to AI? 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️

For the best salads in Montreal, I always go to Mandy's. Their cookbook is on sale in Amazon Canada. Just saying.

#Montreal #desserts Trompe l’oeil pastries from ÔFauria in Laval, maybe 1 of 3 shops in Greater Montreal to follow the trend re-started by Cedric Grolet in France. Expensive ($19 each!) but really cool and delish. I took macaron lessons from chef Faure, happy to see the place was packed. ofauria.com

´The man in black fled across the desert, and Mrs. Dalloway followed.´
Improve a first line by substituting Mrs. Dalloway.

In a hole in the ground there lived Mrs. Dalloway.

It was a queer, sultry summer, the summer they executed Mrs. Dalloway, and I didn't know what I was doing in New York.

#whatscooking Testing for new cookbook, pesto and parmesan flaky pastry straws. So easy it’s a wonder I never made these sooner (with store-bought pastry, let’s be real). 🍽️🍜

Fun: ask Chat what it knows about you from interactions. «You prefer in-depth explanations rather than simplified ones. Your writing shows strong skills in investigation, fact-checking, and conceptual depth. You value precision, elegance, thoughtful articulation.» Oh, and I like melancholic music! 🙈

This AI-generated short story by OpenAI is controversial for implicitely revealing it HAS been training on copyright fiction. It’s also so good it hurts on every level. Our world just turned on a dime. www.theguardian.com/books/2025/m...

I had knee surgery 18 months ago, I spent a few days in hospital listening to Walter Isaacson’s bio of Vinci, my idol (Leo, not Walter). My friends and families were shaking their heads, like, so typical of her lol. Stories like this are my life. www.cnn.com/2025/03/01/s...

Autoriser la vente de viande d’animaux abattus à la ferme?
Des éleveurs du Québec voudraient que soit permise, comme c'est le cas en Colombie-Britannique, la commercialisation de viande d'animaux abattus à la ferme.

Tonight my 18 yr old arrived in Peru on a student volunteering and tourism trip with his school. They will take a day off to Aguas Calientes if anyone has tips on the best way to enjoy the town and Machu Picchu. To think he was 2 years old a second ago… #mommyblues #emptynest #Canadaproud

I love historical fiction but all-men war novels, not so much. I actually restarted halfway through the audiobook so I could read the ebook at the same time because there are many characters and I was getting confused. Amazing narration by Bronson Pinchot and I was not a fan of his before either…

The last day before petals fall. After 20yrs, he still brings flowers for Valentine’s Day. It took his (then) 12yr-old son telling him ´she doesn’t like roses’ for him to seek out tulips. He does. I blame reading Dumas’ La tulipe noire as a teen for my devotion to this simple flower with no perfume.

Kiddo had his driver license test today and it turned into a bureaucratic nightmare. No details needed but cocktails, oh yes. This is DIS/CO, i.e. 1 oz Amaretto Disaronno, 1 oz Southern Comfort and 1 oz jus lemon juice on ice, topped with ginger ale and cucumber garnish. I’m a cocktail fiend.

I decided to catch up on all those US movies I managed not to see along the years for no other reason than timing (plus I was into Quebec and European cinema back in the day). Now I want to redo Christmas lol. What movie has been on your radar for years and it just never happens?
