@dachshundwizard.bsky.social Are those home theater chairs? I used to sneak 8-lb George into the movies all the time! He passed a few years ago. His last film was Top Gun: Maverick. His favorite film was How to Train Your Dragon. He saw every MCU movie through Avengers: Endgame. I miss him to bits.

Yes. But under a shutdown, Trump could circumvent judicial review. He would have unlimited power to shut down agencies and fire workers he deemed “non-essential.” Schumer said several GOP senators warned him it was a trap. Trump intended to keep whatever agencies he wanted closed for 6-9 months.

I looked at the distribution by state. Many red states did not accept Obamacare to expand Medicaid. For those that did, the percentage of whites is much higher than national averages - WV (86%); KY (74%). This suggests that the largest beneficiaries of Obamacare’s Medicaid expansion are white.

Can we all agree that a warrantless arrest and detention of a legal resident, NO MATTER THE REASON, is (another) step toward authoritarianism? Passions run impossibly high on both sides of the Palestinian issue, including mine! It is in part why Trump won. Is it worth losing our democracy over?

I think so! Though I have a brilliant, well-read Zimbabwean friend who resisted reading P2025. He lived under a dictator so he sees those tendencies in Trump. He came here as a teenager and reveres his adopted country. I think it was too painful to let go of the American myth so he looked away.
