Listening to @andyburnham.bsky.social closing @bylinefestival.bsky.social talking about truth, democracy, accountability, duty of candour and access to legal representation for victims of injustice. Inspiring.

Great discussion on 'Building a healthier country from the bottom up' at @bylinefestival.bsky.social. Early mention of the importance of @michaelmarmot.bsky.social's work on social determinants of health, including impacts of poverty and poor housing on quality of life and life expectancy.

Inspiring @kateraworth.bsky.social talking about @doughnuteconomics.bsky.social at @bylinefestival.bsky.social. Meeting people's needs within the needs of the planet. Bravo @cornwallcouncil.bsky.social for embracing the concept of a healthy sustainable future. What about it @plymouthcc.bsky.social?

How quickly another year passes! Flowers near the Norman font and in the Lady Chapel in All Saints' Church #Holbeton in memory of my mother who died 27 years ago this week.

Sometimes seeds germinate in the wormery. A while back, I saw what looked like courgette seedlings and thought "Ah - free courgettes this year". So much for my botanical ID skills. Not free courgettes but a free Christmas nectarine tree a few years later!

A couple of enjoyable hours spent in local churches: at All Saints Holbeton to help with the Christmas flowers, and at St Bartholomew's Yealmpton for the Christmas Tree Festival. The WI tree had a theme of 'Peace on Earth' with lots of doves made and decorated by WI members. My humble effort shown.

I grew up in the Midlands calling this a 'pikelet' but down here in Plymouth it's called a 'crumpet'. I assumed it was a regional thing but research on t'Internet is revealing. Best comment: "A crumpet has height and a fluffy internal texture. A pikelet is a hocky puck of misery and disappointment."
