#ShowMeYourKnits theme this week WHITES & BRIGHTS. I don’t often knit in white & when I do it seems that it’s usually a vintage style for a baby! A ‘petticoat’ for my granddaughter, a fancy matinee jacket for a friend’s daughter and … for an adult, a pretty heck-warmer.
Lying flat on some emerald green mohair knitting is a hand knitted, white baby’s dress. This was knitted to a vintage Patons pattern from the 1920s or 30s - part of a huge Layette of clothes, this was the ‘petticoat’. It is sleeveless and I adapted it to put the buttoning at the front. The bodice is in ribbing to the ‘waist’ (not that babies really have waists 😊) then a big long skirt with a lace stitch pattern from the hem to about halfway up. The lace looks like fern fronds in panels with vertical lines of holes. The hem forms scallops. There is a little crochet round neck & armholes - 2 buttons at the front. There are stains - this got worn quite a lot - Granddaughter was a summer baby. The yarn - Bendigo Woollen Mills 3ply (lt fingering) A bright white old fashioned Matinee Jacket is shown flat on a pale dull green fabric background - the corners of the photo have been vignetted. This was adapted from a vintage Patons pattern - probably from the early 1960s - No: 709 “Just for Babies”. Knitted from the top down- it has a circular yoke (mostly in 2-2 ribbing) then bands of raised stitches in waves alternating with stocking stitch bands that have short vertical lines of holes. It’s a fancy version of the Feather & Fan stitch where YO increases are stacked on top of each other and then 6 or so stitches along, decreases are stacked on top of each other - this forces the stitches into horizontal waves … 🌊 The jacket has long sleeves and at the chest there are 4 buttons - pink metallic love hearts 💕 Yarn - Bendigo Woollen Mills wool in 3ply (Lt fingering ) A close up of the bright white old fashioned Matinee Jacket shown in the previous photo Here we see the fancy stitches and the 4 pink metallic love heart shaped buttons 💕 This jacket was adapted from a vintage Patons pattern - probably from the early 1960s - No: 709 “Just for Babies”. Knitted from the top down- it has a circular yoke (mostly in 2-2 ribbing) then bands of raised stitches in waves alternating with stocking stitch bands that have short vertical lines of holes. On a black background we see a white hand-knitted neck-warmer / collar. It is on a mannequin and the wooden neck end is visible at the top of the photo . The neck-warmer /collar has a wide band to sit snug around the neck - it’s a slightly lacy stitch and there are 2 buttons (made from shell) at the centre front. Then wide points of knitting radiate down the shoulders & chest - each point is about 4 “ long (10cm) and feature textured stitches It’s pretty and a bit old fashioned. My own design I can’t remember what the yarn was but probably a 10 ply (worsted) I gifted this one years ago.

A ‘wedgewood’ blue cardigan on a dressmaker’s mannequin - in a garden, plants and ceramic pots in the background. The mannequin is turned 3/4 to the left. The cardigan has a deep V neckline, 7 closely spaced buttons. Deep ribbing bands (hip band is about 4”). Tight fitting with narrow vertical panels - texture with - little lace. I adapted this from a couple of late 1940s -early 50s vintage Patons patterns. The yarn - from Bendigo Woollen Mills - their ‘Classic’ in 5ply (sports weight) A mushroom brown cardigan jacket on a dressmaker’s mannequin - a black skivvy and skirt are under the Cardie, a white painted brick wall is behind the mannequin. A very deep V neckline - 2 large buttons at the tummy. There are pockets on the hips - borders are Moss Stitch - the rest is a textured stitch that looks like rows of OOOs Made for a stage play - part of a costume for a ‘matron’. A blend of vintage design ideas - shape from a vintage Patons pattern but in a different thickness of yarn - and a different stitch pattern … and with added pockets Bendigo Woollen Mills yarn an 8ply (DK)

#showmeyourknits this week the theme is Holiday knitting. I used to knit Xmas Elf hats for Blythe dolls & sold a few thru the Etsy shop I had. And I’m showing off a ‘snowflake’ jumper I made my grandson. More info in the Alt Text 🧶 #handknit
Shown lying flat on the lid of a plastic storage tub - a bright red with white ‘stranded knitting’ jumper for a toddler. We see the front with one arm out to the side - the other folded down. I made this in memory of a much loved jumper that my Nan knitted me … but by the time I finished this, it was a little small for my grandson, so it didn’t get much wear. Knitted to a vintage pattern in 4ply (sock weight) yarn, with raglan sleeves and a little button opening at the center back neck - I added the colourwork designs. Those designs in white are - at the bottom just above the ribbing - large fancy geometric diamonds - then at center front (and back) a cute deer flanked by pine trees. Round the wrists are narrower bands in a geometric design. Then over the rest of the Stocking Stitch body & sleeves are 1 stitch dots in white - like falling snow. The yarn was Bendigo Woollen Mills ‘classic’ 4ply (sheep wool) the pattern shape was a vintage Patons pattern (can’t remember which one now - grandson is now 19yrs old so I made this about 18yrs ago). A Blythe doll wears a red and white knitted hat. Blythe dolls came in 3sizes - this is a Neo about 12” tall - she was made by Takara, the Welcome Winter release from 2008. She has Long dark brown hair and here she is showing her blue eyes. [Neo sized Blythe dolls have changeable eyes - via a pull string - with 4 pairs of eye-chips, usually 2 pairs will look forward & the others will be side eyes 👀} The hat is a conical ‘elf hat’ - Red with bands of stranded colourwork in white. There are large ‘stars’ and little triangles … other small geometric designs and 1stitch snowflakes like on the child’s jumper. In this photo the hat is worn smished down (like you do with a beret) rather than pointing skywards. Bendigo Woollen Mills 4ply wool yarns with a random acrylic mohair for the white rib band about the head. My own design & pattern - the doll’s name is Bunny.

2 hand knitted toy dragons sit on a wire cage over a goldfish pond in a garden - a timber fence and plants in the background. The pattern is by Annita Wilschut of Zij Maakt Het (on Ravelry) and is called ‘Joris’. About 12” tall with a pear shaped body, long limbs end in cute hands & feet with fingers & toes. The face is kinda triangular - a Roman profile - with wonderful spiky ‘hair’ The Joris at the back is in shades of blue & wears a blue ribbon round his neck. The Joris at the front has bands of autumnal browns & russet - some grey… Both are knitted in sock yarns - Regia Design Line Kaffe Fassett for the brown Joris. A tiny knitted lamb - designed to look like an Easter Lamb Cake - sits on fluffy green ‘grass’ - pale blue & silver paper behind and under … Tiny lamb is in Garter Stitch, to look ‘wooly’ it has embroidered eyes and nose - pale blue ribbon round its neck - some purple flowers decorate the ‘grass’ . This is a MochiMochi Land pattern ‘Lambie Cake’ - on Ravelry. A hand knitted neck warmer in extreme closeup - it’s on a Dressmaker’s mannequin. Tones of rust, olive, purple, mauve - fibre from Ixchel fibres - hand spun by me, knitted in a fancy rib stitch as a little scarf / neck warmer that buttons on (with a big brown wooden button). My own pattern A hand knitted cowl / ring scarf is shown on a Dressmaker’s mannequin. This is in a 2 colour Brioche stitch - it forms a vertical branching design - reminds me of wheat. The ‘branches ‘ are lemon - the background is in bands of dark grape, lemon, blue. All hand spun by me from fibre dyed & blended by Ixchel Fibres. My own pattern

#MannequinMonday summer is round the corner (I’m in the southern hemisphere) - time to get ‘bikini ready’? These 12” wooden mannequins are working out in their ‘active wear’ … #handknit 🧶
A 12” wooden Artists’ Mannequin posed in a garden - lots of brick pavers, rocks, a white painted wall, plants. The mannequin is doing a ham-string stretch with one foot up on a metal bar - reaching towards that toe with their hand outstretched … The mannequin is wearing hand knitted navy leggings & a crop top - the leggings decorated with embroidery for those panels they put in athletic leggings … they also have a ‘fit bit’ on (knitted & square sequins for the ‘face’). My own patterns - navy yarn is 4ply “empire” (merino from Morris & Sons) A 12” wooden Artists’ Mannequin posed in a garden - lots of brick pavers, rocks, a white painted wall, plants. This mannequin is leaping over an antique boot scraper. The mannequin is wearing hand knitted leggings & a crop top - they have bands of blues and green alternating with bands of black&white speckle. She also has a matching headband on. My own patterns - yarn is a 4ply self-striping sock yarn - I can’t remember the brand as I bought it at least 20yrs ago! But I can say that self-striping sock yarn is excellent for dolls’ clothes 😁

A very fuzzy hand knit ringscarf / cowl shown on a dressmaker’s mannequin, oven a sage green garment. Bits of a tiled floor, a framed picture etc are in the background. The cowl has wide stripes alternating crisp apple green & soft sky blue. The colours of early spring in France - new green leaves against a freshly washed blue sky. I bought this lush mohair from the breeder in Vezelay (a very pretty hilltop town in Bourgogne). I used ‘Old Shale’ aka ‘Feather & Fan’ stitch for its simple lace texture and because it forces simple stripes to become waves … My own pattern A red squirrel or rust coloured fluffy jumper is shown on a dressmaker’s mannequin in a garden - lots of green leaves in the background. This project spent so long as a WiP (about 2 decades) I completely forgot it existed. Was nice when I rediscovered it and there was only a tiny amount of work to be done 😁 It’s very loose fitting with a very wide falling collar from the loose ‘boat’ neckline. I used a ‘wave stitch’ for its simple open laciness - with double the number of ‘waves’ in the collar than in the rest of the jumper. My own pattern - the yarn is mohair but I long ago lost the ball bands and can’t remember the details.

A knitted toy dragon is sitting on a green wire hanging basket that’s upside down over a small fishpond in our garden. Wood fence, green leaves and a terracotta finial in the background. The toy is knitted to a great pattern called ‘Joris’ - by the terribly clever Annita Wilschut / Zij Maakt Het - on Ravelry. Knitted in one piece with lots of clever shaping - minimal stitching up. A perfect size - he sits in the hand so nicely … I just love Annita’s patterns. Joris has an aubergine shaped body, long limbs with hands & feet of cute ‘claws’, his face has a very ‘Roman’ profile and he has spiky ‘hair’. The yarn us a self-striping sock yarn (4ply) by Regia - bought a long time ago - one of the Kaffe Fassett ‘design lines’ (04352). Photo showing knitting in progress - the needles (a circ with metal tips) at the bottom of the image. This knitting is very textural - the stitch pattern (‘Vertical Drop Stitch’ is from Barbara Walker’s 2nd Treasury of knitting patterns) is basically a 2x2 rib with added stitches that are deliberately dropped 6 rows later. The yarn is a light teal / aqua with nubs of other colours - red orange navy brown … from Bendigo Woollen Mills their ‘Rustic Tweed’ 8ply they call the colour ‘Rainwashed’. I’m making a bat-wing jumper - in one piece from the front hip band to the back one, a hole in the middle for the neck … it’s my own pattern. On dark green damask fabric are 2 chubby angel Christmas decorations - one finished & one in progress. The finished is smaller (about 5cm or 2”) being in 4ply yarn (that’s sock wt) - it is looking askance at the unfinished and near naked version in 8ply (DK). Small angel has platinum blonde hair (loops of mohair yarn) pale blue wings, a green dress with gold (metallic yarn) at the hem. Large angel only has white underpants on - it looks like a pink blobby baby still with its umbilical cord … a ‘tail’ of yarn emerging from the tummy region (it’ll be used later to sew the hands in position). A variety of yarn scraps used for these small things. 8ply angel is my pattern

I’ve many! All the knitted gifts - didn’t even get a polite thanks 🥴 The vintage patterns I knitted myself, that my teenage daughter sold! All the hats & scarves my hubby has lost - even this one, designed not to fall off
A hand knitted scarf is shown on a dressmakers’ mannequin - in a garden. The scarf is about a metre long and 20cm wide - it’s knitted from a mottled grey & brown yarn. A Manos del Uruguay yarn, one of the 10 - 12ply ones if I remember correctly. The stitch pattern is from one of Barbara Walker’s ‘Treasuries’ - a modified rib stitch called ‘seaweed’ and my fav for scarves - it looks good on both sides. The scarf has narrow borders / edges in Garter Stitch and there are 2 holes / slits about 30cm from one end … Put the scarf round your neck - thread the other end in&out of the 2 slits and you’ve a scarf that stays put and doesn’t fall off. Hubby dear still managed to lose it within 2 years of my making it. My own pattern A close up of the scarf taken while I was knitting it (about 10 yrs ago ) it is lying on a granite counter top. #wipWednesday I’ve interrupted the raindrops, batwing jumper for daughter - to knit a toy dragon from one of my fav patterns … details in the Alt Text #handknit #handknittedtoy
A 3/4 knitted toy with many yarn tails, a small ball of yarn, the bamboo DPNs (double pointed (knitting) needles) and yarn ball-band are all lying on the pattern which has been printed on lemon paper. This is a ‘Joris’ pattern from Zijmaakthet on Ravelry - her patterns are so clever, I love them and I’ve learnt so much from using them. Joris is a favourite - a friendly dragon with spiky ‘hair’ and long limbs ending in funky fingers & toes. Even 3/4 made and unstuffed it’s cute. This Joris is in a sock yarn - Regia 4ply, a Kaffe Fassett ‘design line’ with self-patterning stripes in browns, orange, russet a bit of grey … very Autumnal. I bought it in London in 2008! Handknitting still on the needle - this is the Front of a bat-wing jumper & the bat-wing shaping has started at the side shown here. Some of the 1x1 ribbing is seen in the lower LH corner - the rest is in a fancy stitch pattern with Made then deliberately Dropped stitches - it looks a bit like raindrops. It is in Barbara Walker’s Second Treasury of knitting patterns. I’m using a Lt Teal / Aqua coloured yarn with little multicoloured nubs - Bendigo Woollen Mills’ 8ply Rustic Tweed in ‘Rain Washed’. My own pattern for this jumper.

#showusyourknits this week’s theme is Hats. I’ve knitted so many!!! But here’s a quick selection from the last few years. A quick beanie in school uniform navy for grandson, a vintage style chemo hat for a friend, a fair isle beret and a be-spangled jockey cap for me. More in Alt Txt #handknit
Against a white painted brick wall a navy blue beanie hat is shown on an antique Papier-mâché ‘wig head’. The hat is baggy and loose on the wig head which is smaller than my grandson’s noggin’. Stocking stitch with a wide 1x1 ribbing band that’s folded back. 8 ply wool from Bendigo Woollen Mills - my own pattern Against a white painted brick wall and some fancy wire-work - a swirly, close fitting, hand knitted hat is shown on an antique Papier-mâché ‘wig head’. Stripes of dark teal Stocking Stitch - alternating with light blue and beige variegated in reverse Stocking Stitch - swirl up to the top of the hat. This one was based on a 1960s vintage pattern. It is close fitting and sits low - a brimless cloche. As this was a ‘chemo hat’ and my friend had super sensitive skin - I lined this one with silk fabric. You had see a slight indent about 1.5 cm from the lower edge where it is hemmed and the silk lining is stitched in place. 12ply merino wools from Morris & Sons - their ‘Empire’ if I remember correctly. Against a white painted brick wall and some fancy wire-work - a hand knitted beret is shown on an antique Papier-mâché ‘wig head’. It is a generous beret with lots of colour work / fair isle. The base colour is a light grey then there are bands of designs in raspberry, orange and brown. The designs personalised this beret for my friend - there are tulips and bunny rabbits. Still generous but a bit smaller in diameter than the beret I made myself and showed today on Bluesky. Mine has a small pompom on top whereas this one has a tiny little loop. 4ply ‘Tweed’ wool from Ixchel fibres - my own pattern Not the best photo as it was in low light ! A tan (light brown - the Aussie version of tan) jockey cap style, knitted hat is shown on an antique Papier-mâché ‘wig head’. It is on a wooden table against a window and we see some of my garden through the window - a creeper growing on a white painted brick wall. This hat was based on a late 1960’s vintage pattern. It has a close fitting crown and a peak at the front. The yarn is hand dyed with a mottled effect and I put gold sequins in swirling rows up the crown. The sequins are slightly convex and about 1.5cm - 5/8th an inch in diameter. I knitted them in but they would not sit straight - so I had to stitch them down - I also stiffened the peak with some sheet acetate cut to shape and put inside it. 8ply wool ‘Gaia’ from Ixchel fibres - it’s hand dyed. Pattern adapted from a vintage Patons one in a booklet titled ‘Mad Caps’ 😁

#finishFriday a catch up of 2 weeks finishes. All #handknitting - a vest for Hubby, the hat and bag to complete my peacock outfit and a pair of socks that have been a WiP for ages. 🧶 more in Alt Txt
Shown on a clothes hanger in the garden - so leaves, lattice etc in the background - is a dark teal, hand knitted vest (sleeveless sweater) for a man. The colour is looking more blue in the photo than it is IRL It is a classic V-necked vest but with a nice textured stitch pattern that forms diamonds or lattice. The stitch is in Barbara Walker’s ‘Treasury of Knitting Patterns’ - she called it ‘Imitation Lattice’ and it just a knit/purl combination. The yarn is from Bendigo Woollen Mills - 8ply ‘Whisper’ in ‘Baltic’. A hat and handbag are shown next to a timber garden fence which is in the background - there are objects on the fence, tree branches, a metal pole etc. The hat is in the foreground on a grey styrofoam ‘display head’ - it is a small hat, hand knitted - a ‘modular’ knit so round the head are diamond shapes, then triangles - the top of the hat is a circle of modular knitting like the bottom of the bag (see next photo) The ‘diamonds ‘ make soft points along the edge of the hat. The bag is hanging by its handle behind the hat - it is also modular knitting - diamond shapes. It is quite long. The handle is crochet (backed with gros-grain ribbon. Both hat & bag are in a variety of yarns - with edges handle etc in a dark teal 8ply - the rest are greens, blues, a touch of orange & brown … peacock colours. Both are to my own patterns but the base of the bag (see next photo) and top of the hat are based on ‘Felted Stained Glass Fan Bag’ by Madeline Langan - it’s on Ravelry In this photo we see the base of the handbag - With some of the rest of the bag and it is lying on top of the knitted vest shown in the 1st photo . Modular knitting - fan shapes - decreasing into the centre. A variety of yarns is used with a dark teal coloured 8ply yarn used to edge / seperate the fans. The rest are greens, blues, a touch of orange & brown … peacock colours. This base of the bag and the top of the little hat in the previous photo are based on ‘Felted Stained Glass Fan Bag’ by Madeline Langan - it’s on Ravelry A pair of hand knitted socks shown on some yellow sandstone. The socks are lying ‘pigeon toed’ - toes together, heels out. I use a vintage Patons pattern - top down, heel flap style heel … The yarn is a self-patterning sock yarn from Regia - a 4ply - ‘Urban Jungle colour 2592’ It makes irregular bands in greys and light turquoise.

#WiPwednesday - the first step - swatching for a jumper for my adult daughter. My own pattern it has batwing sleeves. I’m going to work it in one - so I need a stitch pattern that looks basically the same - right way up & upside down. #handknit #knitting 🧶
Lying on dark green corduroy fabric is some hand knitting still on the needle - it is on an angle. My fingers are holding down the lower edge (my nails need doing!) the ball of yarn is at the top of the photo. The knitting is about 40sts wide and samples 3 different stitch patterns separated by a few rows in reverse stocking stitch. All 3 have texture and lace holes and all are from Barbara Walker’s ‘A Second Treasury of Knitting Patterns’. The lowest has long lozenges with lace up their middles, the middle one wobbles from side to side like a drunken sailor alternating simple cabling and lace. The top pattern has ‘raindrops’ of created-then-dropped stitches. The yarn is a light teal (older folk like myself call this colour Aqua) with ‘neps’ of other colours (mustard red navy …). It is from Bendigo Woollen Mills - 8ply (DK) Rustic Tweed ‘Rainwashed’. Daughter now has to decide which of these 3 stitch patterns she likes best …

#showmeyourknits and #Socktober So a few socks at random. Self-patterning sock yarns & an old Paton’s top down pattern with a heel flap are my ‘go-tos’ for socks. Yes, I darn them. And many yrs ago I made socks for a 12” wooden Artists’ mannequin. #handknitting 🧶
Shown lying on a timber table is a single sock (I’m still knitting this one’s partner) In uneven bands of turquoise, light (sky) blue & grey. The yarn is a ‘Regia 4ply Color’ A pair of hand knitted socks both with toes pointing to the left - lying on some white & lime green floral fabric. These socks are mostly a mottled fleck of greys with bands of dark grey and navy blue … round the mid foot, and just above the ankle - a thinner band of stripes is lower on the ankles and the cuffs are a solid dark grey. The yarn is one of the Regia ‘Pairfects’ - a self- patterning yarn designed so that - if you follow the easy instructions - you knit a pair of matching socks with the stripes and colours in the same places !! Identical Twins (most self patterning yarns will give you Fraternal Twins 😉 Here we see a grey hand knitted sock being darned. It is on a ‘darning mushroom’ - you can see part of my hand holding it up to the camera. The darning is almost complete - it’s not very tidy but it’ll keep the sock in wearable condition for another year - the needle is stuck in the sock above the darned section . In the background on a timber table - the sock’s partner, the tin I keep my sewing needles in etc The calves and feet of a 12” wooden Artists’ Mannequin - it is wearing chartreuse coloured hand knitted socks - a glimpse of its knitted long shorts is visible at the top edge of the photo. Behind is a white painted brick wall - the mannequin is standing on 1 foot, the other is lifted slightly to the back. It stands on a round timber and black fabric ‘stand’ (metal under that fabric - the mannequin has magnets in its feet). The feet are quite large / long. Socks are knitted from lace weight yarn (2ply) my own pattern, top down with a heel flap.

#showmeyourknits this week - things you have #knit 🧶 to CARE for others. My hubby shows little care for the things I knit him - he has lost 2 jumpers (sweaters), many scarves & several beanie hats. Despite this I still knit for him - does this mean I still care for him? Or am I bonkers?

There are vertical cables decreasing into the top of the hat - my own pattern. It is a dark teal colour and the stitch pattern looks like lattice or diamonds - it’s all just knit & purl stitches. The stitch is in Barbara Walker’s “A Treasury of Knitting Patterns” she called it ‘Imitation Lattice’. This was going to be a jumper but I don’t have enough yarn so it’ll be a vest instead … for the hubby who loses things I knit for him … I’ll let you decide if this means I care for him - or if it means that I am bonkers. The yarn is from Bendigo Woollen Mills - 8ply (DK) ‘Classic Merino’ in ‘Baltic’. My own pattern

#showmeyourknits the theme this week - Autumn Knits. It’s spring here now but back in 2019 I made a 4Seasons set using my handspun yarns & here is Autumn, a capelet or short poncho. I entered 3 of the Seasons in that year’s Bendigo Sheep and Wool Show - Autumn got a 2nd prize. 🧶 #handknit #handspun

This photo shows the front The capelet is loosely knitted in mid-brown, chunky handspun wool - it was from a naturally brown sheep - this yarn is undyed. It was spun rather unevenly - there are slubs etc. The knitting is in 2x2 ribbing with decreases into vertical ‘spines’ at center front & back - this makes it V-shaped like a poncho. It has a loose soft turtleneck collar. #showmeyourknits this week - Scarves. Most knitters have made a scarf or 2 … here is a random selection of mine. From ‘challenging’ to ‘easy-peasy’. More in AltText 🧶 #handknit
Draped between 2 posts in a garden (so there are green leaves, some bamboo and a white painted brick wall) is a large hand knitted scarf. The scarf looks like something from ‘Missoni’ with a complex design of zigzags and ? Tre-foils or frog feet ? The pattern designer called the pattern ‘FoxPaws’ - it’s on Ravelry. Mine is worked in white, black, chartreuse, orange, burgundy. 4ply yarns (sock wt) 3 were Morris & Sons ‘Empire’ - 2 were alpacca which I’d not recommend for this sort of knitting, it was harder to work. There are massed increases & decreases … and that’s what creates the design of ‘paws’ etc … without the crazy increases & decreases the scarf would have simple straight stripes. A challenging knit but immensely rewarding. Hanging in a garden so you can see the 2 sides of this ‘branching brioche’ scarf. 2 yarns are used - one is black wool (I can’t remember the brand) the other is hand-spun by myself and it’s variegated mostly orange & red … a bit of light green. The brioche stitch pattern is very strongly ribbed in a branching design - one side of the scarf is predominately black - the other is predominantly the bright coloured hand-spun. Brioche stitches are really squishy and the fabric is very warm … making brioche ideal for scarves! A very short scarf. I like to call this style a Muffler. Here it is shown on a dressmaker’s mannequin. It’s made of very chunky hand-spun yarn (one I spun myself) in bands of orange, yellow, pinks. A simple 1x1 rib I made a Slot /Hole towards one end - so the other end can be threaded through and then this very short scarf stays on around your neck and doesn’t get lost. A mannequin is next to a white painted brick wall - on it is a black skivvy and a bright blue scarf. Knitted loosely from a sock yarn with long length colour variations (blues & purples) this scarf is a long tube of stocking stitch (stockinette) - each end is finished with a lovely lush tassel made of the same wool.

Colour work knitting 🧶 always means a lot of tails to tidy away. As this modular knit is a hand bag and will be lined, I guess I could’ve left the tails but I find tails useful for beautifying stitches that have gone astray & filling in gaps…
Under artificial light (so colours look ‘warmer’ than they are) some hand knitting is on a wooden table … there are lots of ‘tails’. Colours are dark teal and green with lots of orange Modular knit handbag is being ‘blocked’ (washed then dried in the desired shape) over plastic containers and a plate - it’s on a dark green bench in my garden. In shape it looks a bit like a thick stemmed mushroom - the plate is up the top but that’s actually the bottom of the bag (it’s upside-down) The body of the bag is modular knitted diamond shapes - all outlined with dark teal -the diamonds in a variety of colours - greens & blues, plum & browns. This is the bottom of the bag and for this part I did use a pattern and only adapted it a little ! It’s on Ravelry ‘Felted Stained Glass Fan Bag’ Stretched over a plate is a circle of modular knitting - these modules are fan shaped. The fans are all outlined with a Dark Teal - the fans are in dark greens and blues, plum, pink / orange …

#wipWednesday I’ve finished the skirt of my Peacock Suit and have decided to make a matching hat and handbag - it’ll be completely Over the Top. Started on the bag - modular knitting to look like feathers … more in Alt Txt 🧶 #handknit

The skirt is most dark teal in Stocking Stitch (Stockinette) with straight ridges of reverse Stocking Stitch worked in a variegated yarn (pale greens blues mauve) The Modular piece in progress will be a bag - I’m working it top (opening ) down … diamonds of various colours are separated by Reverse Stocking Stitch ridges in dark teal - the diamonds are in the variegated yarn described above (it was hand dyed), another variegated in plum purples & browns (commercial unknown brand), and 2 yarns dyed by Charley of Ixchel Fibres - one is emerald green with dashes of orange, the other is in shades of chocolate browns. There are lots of tails of yarn visible … The Teal yarns are from Bendigo Woollen mills. Back view of the suit shown on a mannequin in my garden. Both go to Long points at the centre back (the skirt will hang to my ankle). #mannequinmonday Spring has sprung where I am & suddenly we want to spend time in the garden. Here are photos of one of the ‘gardening’ windows I did for the little yarn shop. More in the Alt Txt #handknit #crochet #miniature 🧶

#blythedoll whimsy. For the Blythe a Day photo challenge on Flickr - today’s theme was ‘Temptation’. A chocolate shop is full of temptations!
Two petite Blythe dolls in a diorama of a specialist chocolate shop. The diorama and all the miniature sweet things on display, are from the Re-ment set ‘Petit Chocolaterie’. Behind the counter is a LPS Blythe ‘Hiking Trip’ - her blonde hair in 2 ponytails with bright pink bows - she is offering her customer a wrapped lolly. 🍬 The customer is a Takara petite Blythe - the ‘Clionetti’ release - I’ve named her Chloe. Her pinkish hair is in 2 curly bunches tied high on her head - both dolls have fringes (bangs). Chloe wears a white dress with lots of lace trim and pale pink clogs. She holds a card cake box in one hand and a large take away cup in the other - her drink has a lot of cream on top. She might have to refused the offered lolly although it is tempting - simply because she has run out of hands !

Last #mannequinmonday I showed one of the 12” wooden artists’ mannequins wearing a 1970s inspired #crochet outfit - so this week I’ll show that outfit properly and another 70s pantsuit I made - so Funky !! 🧶 Details in Alt Text
In front of a wooden box, a 12” tall wooden artists’ mannequin is posing / dancing in a hot pink crochet pantsuit. This all-in-one mesh pantsuit was inspired by one in a vintage pattern book that I own. The pant legs are flared, the top is sleeveless and has a V-neckline decorated with a small red crochet flower. The mannequin is also wearing a red crochet hat - the brim made to look like petals. I should say that the crochet is denser and not see-thru at the ‘rude’ bits (not that wooden mannequins actually have those). 4ply ‘Estate’ wool from Morris & Sons - my own patterns Posing dramatically in front of a white painted brick wall - a 12” tall wooden mannequin in an orange & hot pink outfit. We are looking up at the mannequin - the crochet trousers are very flared, mesh then at the flare the crochet goes into a floral stitch and the colour changes to red then bright pink. The tunic is also mostly orange with the bell sleeves and ‘skirt’ of the tunic changing colours and going to flowers like the trousers. The neckline is squared off and the tunic has a tie belt. The mannequin wears a hat to match the outfit - from this angle we only see the bright pink floral stitch brim - it’s not a wide brim, almost a cloche hat. Yarns are 4ply wool from Morris & Sons - my own patterns This photo was taken thru the window of The Granny Squares in Newtown (it’s now closed 😢) In the background we see a wooden box and shelves full of yarn 2 mannequins are in the foreground wearing the outfits shown in the other 2 photos - the orange tunic & flared trousers are on the left of this photo. Between the mannequins is a white crochet covered basket full of small rolls of colourful felt fabric and a blue knitted toy ‘dragon’ … I made the toy too. He is a ‘Joris’ - a brilliant pattern by Annita Wilschut of Zij Maakt Het …
