Why was the power station designed to supply 60.3 Hz, seems so unusual given the rest of the grid in north America running at 60?

There are at least 3-4 vacant commercial lots within walking distance of where I live in the SF bay area, we don't need to expand more into the fire prone hills.

I thought no one died in the recent crash

Exactly, don't complain about conflict between e-bikes and pedal bikes, just build more bike infrastructure to accomodate both!
February 17, 2025 at 10:45 PM
The problem is not really the fast ebikes, its that just like normal bikes, they don't have enough dedicated infrastructure so they get stuck sharing the limited bike lanes. Which, you are correct, causes conflicts, just like conflict between cars and bikes when there is no bike lane at all.

I just drove past the same thing on my commute home yesterday evening. It had rained so everyone forgot how to drive safely.

It's a standard unit for water.

Also, while we are at it please remove the ultra bright blue LEDs from everything.

Just make everything green and it will work l itself out

Im a Canadian living in the USA not European but I don't have issues with individuals who use cars, myself included, you are correct you need them in most places. I do have issue with the design of cities and people who continue to promote cars as the only mode.
January 19, 2025 at 11:47 PM
I read that shopkeepers who drive overestimate that their clients also drive when that often isn't the case (in cities).
January 5, 2025 at 11:06 PM
Isn't that saying the same thing.
January 4, 2025 at 9:39 PM
Absolutely, your ebike is much lighter than an EV so even if they are similarly efficient by the cal/g/km metric the absolute energy usage will be much less for the bike.
January 2, 2025 at 7:51 PM
I didn't use the metabolic equivalent of task (MET) here as I'm not certain that's the best approach. I just used the power output of the person riding and didn't account for the inefficiency inherent to the generation of that power. If its 3-5x that would be significant.
January 2, 2025 at 6:59 PM
This calculation is normalized by weight so might not be a huge difference in the end and I didn't know how to account for the aerodynamic difference of the larger rider so stuck close to the defaults.
January 2, 2025 at 6:55 PM
That's a factor of 1000 right? I thoight the original paper used standard calories.
January 2, 2025 at 2:37 PM
That was the default. Not unreasonable for a carbon road bike.
January 2, 2025 at 2:36 PM
For comparison can you convert to the same units, cal/g/km?
January 2, 2025 at 2:38 AM
No, its just like the figure, energy consumed to move a distance normalized by "body" weight.
January 2, 2025 at 2:15 AM
This neglected any inefficiency of converting food energy to power by the person. The car figures should include this.
January 2, 2025 at 1:43 AM
I re-calculated the bike numbers using the calculator here: www.gribble.org/cycling/powe... and I got 0.04 cal/g/km if a 140lb rider on a 17lb bike travels at 15mph consuming 85W, beating the Tesla Model 3, going slower is better also.

I was curious how modern cars compare and a hybrid Prius (52 mpg) is about 0.25 cal/g/km. A Tesla Model 3 (3.9 mi/kwh) is <0.1 cal/g/km, seems to now beat a man on bicycle.
