A lovely stop off in Knaresborough today as I made my way back over the Pennines to spend two days in a primary school and three days in a SEND school.
(Plus a delicious lunch)

And that’s a wrap on placement as a trainee history teacher!

I’ve been so incredibly lucky with two fantastic schools and departments.
Next step: Move back to Lancashire and begin my journey as an ECT 👩‍🏫

Happy #caturday 🐱

In 7500BC a human was buried in Cyprus.
Buried in a grave next to them was an 8 month old kitten.

Cats aren’t native to Cyprus, telling us that cats were being domesticated as people settled in the Fertile Crescent!

I have no images so here is my cat!

Happy Caturday! 🐱

In 1979 Smudge was employed by the People’s Palace museum as ‘Chief Rodent Operative ‘ 🐭
Smudge even held a General, Municipal, and Boilermakers’ (GMB) union membership!

She was also named Glasgow’s ‘Kitty of Culture’ in 1990

Clitheroe castle- a motte and bailey castle founded by Roger de Poitou in the 11th century.
If you’re ever in the Ribble Valley I highly recommend visiting the castle museum!
(There’s also some great bakeries nearby) 😋

Whilst raiding my grandparents home, we discovered Maud Couper- my great, great aunt!

Supposedly Maud was one of the first voices of the speaking clock. I’m not sure how true that is but if anyone has any relevant information or could point me in a direction for research, that would be great! 😄

It’s been a very busy weekend so I missed caturday, whoops!
Happy… catunday??

Anyway, did you know cats were a sacred animal to the Vikings? The goddess Freyja, according to mythology, would bless those who were kind to them 🐱🌸

#Caturday once again 🐱

Cats were first brought to Britain by the Romans and it seems we’ve loved them ever since!
Stuart London especially seemed to have a fondness for the felines.
These novelty cat jugs were very popular, commonly used for milk or cream 🥛

Happy #Caturday 🐈

This week I taught about witchcraft in Elizabethan England.

Cats were often thought to be witches familiars.
Helping them in the dark arts or spying on the local villagers.
This put many cats in danger during the height of the witch trials! 🪄

#Caturday history 🐱

Unsinkable Sam is one of my favourite stories!

Actually known as Oscar, ‘unsinkable Sam’ was a ships cat who served on German and British ships. He survived 3 sinkings ⚓️

After being transferred from Gibraltar, he lived the rest of his life in Belfast.

Sometimes I look at my mums cat and I start to understand artists throughout history who created questionable looking cats 🐱

Leopard mosaic in San Giovanni Evangelista, Ravenna, circa 1213.

It’s #caturday 🐱

Some of my favourite history is the pro and anti suffragette cat imagery or what some have described as cat ‘memes’!

This is a personal favourite portraying an injured cat (suffragette) who isn’t willing to give up the fight 💪

Recently I’ve been trying to explore this side of the country having moved over from Lancashire 🌹
Tynemouth Priory and Castle has definitely been a favourite!
Although, the Mr Whippy afterwards might have swayed me a little 🍦

Yesterday marked the first day of 16 days of activism against gender-based violence.
The UNGEI has some great resources online. This was a read I found particularly interesting- www.ungei.org/publication/...

Hello blue sky! 🩵

At the start of this year I submitted my dissertation that focussed on equids and the men who cared for them in WW1.
In my research I discovered these photos, a pay book, and lots of spiders stuffed away in my Grandmas cupboard.

The two images were taken in Boulogne, 1917.
